Couple buys Home Depot shed and transformed it into gorgeous home that sold for $312K

A lot of people are being inspired to become debt-free by a couple who renovated a Home Depot shed and sold it for a profit before purchasing their ideal home. It’s a great route to financial freedom as it helped the couple skip a huge amount of debt.

The shed was purchased by Nick and Meghan Lucido for roughly $27,000 in 2019. They lived in the renovated home for nearly a year before selling it to a buyer who made an astronomically higher offer than they could have ever imagined.

The offer stunned them.

The couple frequently updates their home on social media, and their TikTok video became viral. The process of converting a shed into a functional home and realizing a profit captivated the attention of viewers.

A few years ago, Nick and Meghan were just young professionals living in Georgia and, as Nick put it, “keeping up with the Joneses.” Everything started when they accumulated debt they hadn’t intended to acquire.

They wanted to be debt-free.

After the birth of their baby, the couple made the sensible decision to sell their 2000-square-foot house and move into a camper van in order to manage their debt and save money.

They were able to pay off $82,000 in debt as a result of their decision, which turned out to be sensible. Additionally, they were able to purchase a fresh piece of land in Georgia’s highlands and begin construction on their dream house.

The couple had a smart idea.

After a while, Nick and Meghan decided they were sick of living in the camper and went to Home Depot to purchase and remodel a shed.

They placed the shed on the eight acres of land they had bought for their future home. When they got it, it was only a shell, but the couple did everything in their power to make it a cozy place to live in.

They flipped the shed.

“We bought our code book, we met with the local code of enforcement, we did everything that needed to be done to convert that into a home,” Nick recounted.

During the renovation, Nick served as the general contractor. The couple converted the shed into a two-story, 860-square-foot home, primarily relying on YouTube videos. It features a deck, one bedroom, and functional plumbing.

The result was unbelievable.

“It was very radical and extreme, but we wouldn’t have it any other way,” he shared. The Lucidos spent over $60,000 converting the shed into a suitable home.

“A home is really just a place for you to lay your head down at night and just recover and replenish yourself,” Nick remarked. “We didn’t spend a lot of time inside. When you have eight acres in the middle of the woods, you have some freedom to do what you want.

The universe had other plans for them.

The couple initially intended to live in the shed while they constructed their new home on the same site. However, when the pandemic struck, and housing values rose nationwide, they saw a chance to sell.

And so they listed it and actually got astonishing offers. In April 2021, Nick and Meghan sold the refurbished house for $312,000 and generated roughly $225,000 in profit, which they used to start construction on their new house on a different piece of property.

And this inspired a lot of people.

“People burdened by debt and the everyday weight of life so I think our debt story, how we were probably one of the very, very few to sell pretty much everything we own—including the furniture, I mean, we sold everything—I think there’s a little inspiration there that there’s light at the end of the path,” he added.

The pair have recently moved into a brand-new, completely customized two-story home with an open porch, but they remain fully open to the idea of flipping homes once again.
