Dogs are the most loyal animals on the planet.

Once they have been accepted as part of a family, dogs won’t just leave their humans and they will do anything to get back to them if they become separated.

The dog in this story was named Leo by those who found him. Unfortunately, he was accidentally left behind by his human family four years ago at a gas station. Leo never lost hope that his family would come back for him, however.

Leo loses his family.

Likely hoping his family would come back to him, Leo never left the area where he had last seen them. He would sit on the side of the road just waiting for his humans to return.

Thankfully, people in the area decided to help the lost dog. Now living as a stray in the area, Leo was cared for by a 45-year-0ld woman named Saowalak. She would feed Leo and make sure he was okay. Saowalak would bring the dog home with her as well but Leo would always return to the same spot by the side of the road, waiting for his family to return.

Searching for Leo’s family.

While Saowalak made sure Leo had food, another nearby resident set out to find the dog’s family. He posted photos of Leo online and noted how he would always wait in the same spot by the side of the road.

Sure enough, Leo’s family reached out to Anuchit to say the dog in the photos look a lot like the dog they lost years earlier. The dog named Leo had previously been named BonBon.

The family reunited with BonBon but things had changed.

BonBon’s family had tried looking for him after he went missing 4 years earlier but eventually gave up hope of ever seeing their dog again. Then they saw the pictures of “Leo” that Anuchit had posted online and realized it was him.

An interesting reunion.

When the family and BonBon were finally reunited after years apart, it was certainly emotional. Something had changed in the dog in the 4 years since he hadn’t seen his family, however. There were new people in his life now that had been feeding and caring for him. He couldn’t just leave those wonderful people.

Leo/BonBon’s loyalty was torn between the family he had once known and the one he has now.

Leo decides to stay with his new family.

In the end, Leo wouldn’t leave the area and wouldn’t leave Saowalak, the woman who had been caring and feeding him for the last four years. She had become his family now and while it is certain he missed his old family very much, he didn’t want to leave his new one.

The family allowed Leo to stay with Saowalak and his new humans. They promised to help care for him from a distance as best they could, however.

Why did Leo stay with his new family?

One can only speculate as to why Leo chose his new family over his old one. Perhaps he was worried about being left at a gas station again and figured it’s best to stay with Saowalak, whose care had never wavered in four years. Leo had grown a new attachment to her even while missing his old family and hoping for them to return.
