Mama dog abandoned with her puppies struggled to survive until help arrived

Diasozo Animal Rescue (DAR) finds a lot of strays in Karditsa, Greece.

Animal lover Ermioni founded the rescue organization with friends Katerina and Fotini.

The streets of Karditsa are home to many homeless and abandoned animals.

One of their recent rescues was a very resilient and persevering mother dog.

This particular dog proved herself to be quite independent. She’d been going around the village collecting food she could produce milk for her litter of puppies.

In other words, mama dog learned to go shopping.

Well, maybe not quite shopping. The dog had to beg for scraps or go searching in the garbage. She made do with anything she could get. Any nourishment is better than none when you’ve got little ones to feed.

DAR learned of this mama dog and the lengths she went to in order to feed her puppies. The knowledge of a desperate stray, and the reputation it had, was all the reason they needed to head over and take a look.

They found the puppies before they found the mother, who they named Myra. Several puppies were huddled for shelter under an old 500 or so liters water tank.

Based on the information that DAR managed to find, Myra was likely an abandoned pet. She used to have a home, and now is making do with this. Poor girl.

This means plenty of room for a litter of puppies to stay under. Of course, there are way more ideal places for a struggling mama dog and her puppies.

Once Myra came back, it was time for DAR to do its job.

First things first, they had to get Myra into a carrying kennel. This wasn’t easy.

Myra was incredibly unsure and wary of the kennel, and DAR had to coax her for several long minutes. Things eventually worked, and Myra was loaded onto their van.

Obviously, the puppies were a lot easier to load into there.

Once they touched down at the shelter, they could finally start making plans on how to help the dog.

At least now, the puppies had an actual home to sleep in, complete with walls, roofs, and a lot of neighbors.

Sure beats that water tank in the old field.

Adjusting to the new place took a while for Myra and her puppies.

The sight of a strange new home can be jarring, but they quickly learned that it was way better than their old “home”. You can rest now, girl. Don’t worry about it!

DAR chose an enclosure where Myra could have some mom-time.

It required a quick relocation of another dog, specifically a female pointer.

She didn’t need an enclosure this big anyway, so hopefully, she didn’t mind being moved to another spot.

Now with privacy, safety, and some actual food, Myra could settle down and raise the puppies until they were big enough.

In the meantime, DAR requested support and donations to their Patreon in order to keep up their rescue efforts.

Judging by the looks of it, their organization is worth it.

We all know that rescues eventually find their forever homes. Myra is still eagerly waiting for hers, and the same can be said of her puppies. Still, it’s very comforting to know that this single mother and her kids are in good hands.
