Sometimes, it’s a shame to be human.

While we call dogs man’s best friend, sadly, some people can’t be the same to them. Cases about animal cruelty, especially to dogs, is still on the rise, and it just keeps on ballooning especially during this pandemic.

It’s really hard to imagine how people can be so cruel to animals.

Alas, sad stories of mistreated and abandoned pets abound, and an RSPCA shelter in Leicester, England made headlines in March for yet another case.

This is Misty:

Workers at the Woodside Animal Shelter were shocked when they came into work on a Wednesday in March to find her tied to their front gate.

It was unclear who left her there or how long she had been there without food or water (though it couldn’t have been more than an evening).

The four-legged cutie was just patiently waiting for someone to see her situation. Finally, when her rescuers came, the little pup got all fired-up because of so much excitement.

“She was stood with her head pushed through the bars of the gate, her ears back with these big, brown puppy dog eyes,” a spokeswoman from shelter said in a press release.

Misty clearly had a rough life before finding her way to the rescue.

For starters, she was malnourished and photos show her ribs visible under her skin. There were also cuts on her nose and a skin condition to treat.

Her rescuers found a microchip on Misty.

When they called the number she was registered to, they were told she had been rehomed years earlier.

There was no more information as to why that was or who her next owners were (nor how she came to be abandoned).

England implemented a comprehensive Animal Welfare Act, because of this, her abandonment is already considered a crime. Hence, an investigation about this case has been opened and appears to be still ongoing.

Woodside Animal Center posted the information to Facebook and asked anyone with information about her “owners” to get in touch. Their post read, in part:

“You may have seen in the news today a story about a little Staffy who was left tied to our gates at Woodside.
This matter is being dealt with directly by RSPCA HQ as this is now a criminal case. The Staffy is being cared for at Woodside and is receiving expert care to ensure she is healthy both physically and mentally.”

In March, her rescuers posted a little update on the sweet Staffordshire Bull Terrier in response to a question from a concerned citizen:

“Misty is doing great and is recovering well in our care. Once she is available for rehoming we will be able to give a full update.”

You’re probably asking, how’s Misty doing now?

Wonderfully!

In June, she went up for adoption after the lockdown ended in England and immediately found her forever home with a couple that’s looking forward to giving her a beautiful life.

The shelter posted the good news along with a photo of Misty and her new parents:

“Our gorgeous girl finally said goodbye to kennel life this week!
After being left tied to our gates earlier this year, Misty became part of an RSPCA cruelty case. After winning her case during lockdown, Misty could finally begin the search for her forever home.
Misty received lots of interest and we are delighted that so many of you wanted to open your homes and hearts to our sweet girl.”

Jane Wingfield, Misty’s new mom even posted a photo of them.

She also shared an update for all the concerned animal-lovers who wanted to keep track of the rescued pup’s condition.

“She’s absolutely gorgeous and has settled down beautifully. So lucky to have been asked to be her parents,” Wingfield wrote in the comments on Misty’s adoption post.

We can’t really put a permanent stop to animal cruelty. Cases of abandoned dogs will still keep on rising.

On the other hand, we’re still thankful for all the kindhearted people and organizations that are tirelessly fighting for animal rights and also for giving them their temporary and permanent homes.

We’re so happy for this little girl!
