No one knows for sure, but rescuers think that Abigail was used as a bait dog, meaning that a dogfighting ring made vicious dogs attack her for practice. Luckily, she escaped and has since become a star.

When the rescuers found Abigail, she was clinging on to life. No one could tell if she was going to make it. One whole side of Abigail’s head was torn off. And her injuries were badly infected.

It’s hard to imagine that anyone would want to make a dog like Abigail suffer. Sadly, there are many people around the world who run or participate in dogfighting rings.

The ASPCA believes that the tens of thousands of people in America alone are involved in dogfighting.

Law enforcement agencies have stated that they believe that in recent years, dogfighting has increased in popularity. Sadly, it’s incredibly hard to crack down on dogfighting rings. Naturally, the people who run the dogfighting rings are highly secretive and do all that they can to evade justice.

Hopefully, more will be done in the future to save dogs like Abigail from the people who organize and participate in dogfighting.
