Abused dog becomes local hero after her "sixth sense" led authorities to a missing toddler

The gift of life can come in full circle in the most unexpected of ways.

We can’t really tell if it was the result of evolutions for tens of thousands of years but dogs have this uncanny sense toward humans.

Just recently, dogs can detect COVID. Even before that, dogs are trained to be assistants because they can sense the onset of a symptom when alarm bells are far from ringing.

It is this canine’s “sixth sense” that turned an abused dog into a hero. And it’s all because one family took a chance on her.

Petunia arrived at the Delta Animal Shelter in bad shape.

She has two broken legs and broken ribs on top of all the conditions she had at that time. Her previous owner was accused of animal cruelty and was rightfully convicted.

Petunia eventually recovered and was adopted by a family. She was renamed Peanut and has lived and loved and abundance. One morning, however, her story came in a full circle.

Her owner shared their story with Peanut’s previous shelter.

She said that around 11 AM, Peanut was acting strange. She was restless and she seem to can’t to stay still. They said she was running up and down the stairs and was trying to get their attention with loud barks and yelps.

Being impatient, Peanut then rushed to the garage where the owner’s husband was. Her husband, thinking that the dog just wanted to go outside, took Peanut out.

Then, right as she reached the yard, Peanut bolted.

Her husband quickly followed behind the dog who sprinted her way toward the field just behind their house. There, she jumped into a ditch and led her husband to an unforgettable discovery.

“My husband followed her and to his surprise, he found a naked, shivering, 3-year-old girl curled up in a ball,” the post said. Her husband then wrapped the girl with his sweatshirt and brought her inside their house.

The couple called 911 so they can get the girl to safety.

First responders came in and quickly investigated what happened. By the time they got there, the child could only say one thing – “doggie.” The little girl was then rushed to a nearby hospital.

Authorities went door to door to ask for more information or if they knew the little girl. They were eventually led to a house not far from Peanut’s residence.

The police were appalled by what they saw.

In a statement, the police said that the little girl and her parents are living in “unsafe and unsanitary” living conditions.

Another young girl was seen in the house. The police then called Child Protective Services to help them rescue the girl.

In the end, Peanut didn’t just save one, but two kids. Peanut’s owners said that words cannot express their gratitude and that Peanut has always been a blessing to them. Apparently, Peanut isn’t a blessing to just one family.

They thanked the shelter for taking in Peanut because if not for their efforts, Peanut would not have been alive to save those little girls.
