Dog’s owner beat her with a belt, but she refused to let her spirit be crushed

Dogs tend to be pretty tough, especially when it comes to their spirit. Eventually, though, with enough abuse, even the strongest of wills can be broken. One dog in Texas had been so badly abused that she lived in fear of the simple touch of a human. Fortunately, she was able to battle back from her place of darkness and start to learn how to live a more normal life.

Gia suffered horrible abuse

Gia had arrived at the shelter in Texas, a victim of abuse at the hands of her former owner. Unfortunately, the shelter she was being held at did not have many volunteers and the staff was small. This made it harder for the shelter to deal with her like they needed to. Her owner had beaten her with a belt. After being abused, her owner would tie her to a tree outside.

Worst of all, she would cower in a corner shaking, and every time she was touched by one of the workers, she would urinate herself. Then she would just lie there is a puddle of her urine, terrified to move, frightened that she would receive the abuse she was so used to. Fortunately, there are angels out there.

Dallas Dog — RRR sought to help Gia recover

While the shelter she was at did not have the staff or resources to meet her needs, both physically and emotionally, one organization was willing to step in and help Gia out. Dallas Dog – Rescue. Rehab. Reform. — which focuses on the cases that the organization feels truly needs its help — was willing to take Gia on.

Underneath the fear, Gia had a strong spirit

At first, Gia was still frightened and would hide underneath the bed whenever a human would come near. Through love, patience, and kindness, Gia was able to begin her journey back to a normal life without that fear. Staff also realized that even though she was afraid of humans when the staff was not around, she liked to play with the other dogs.

It was then that the staff at Dallas Dog RRR knew that there was hope for Gia. All they needed to have was a little patience to give her the time she needed to heal. Eventually, she was ready to go to live in a foster home with someone who had a lot of experience with traumatized dogs like her. With time, her foster mom believes that she can heal from her horrible past and learn to love and trust humans once again.

And while Gia’s foster mom believes that with time she will recover, it will be a long road. Until then, she and others will be there to support her every step of the way. Here is a video of Gia’s harrowing journey from a life of horrific abuse to hopefully one filled with love and trust.
