Add peanuts to a bottle of Coke for the delicious Southern trend we’ve been missing out on

Southerners probably know about this snack hack. According to many, putting peanuts in a bottle of Coke will leave you with a salty, sweet, fizzy, crunchy snack. Yes, all at the same time. Let’s take a look abut the great idea that’s been handed down for generations.

With social media trends on the rise, the bravest among us have introduced us to some of the weirdest food combinations. The unlikely pairings are all over Instagram and TikTok, and some turned out to be quite tasty when people eventually tried them. For example, would you eat apple pie and cheddar cheese together? How about ketchup and popcorn? And what do you think about the carrots and mustard combo? No?!

It is believed that the idea started in the South in the early 20th century.

So, how do you come up with such a weird idea? As stated on the National Peanut Federation’s website, the working people may not have had a place to wash their hands, and that’s why they poured peanuts directly into the bottle.

Remember, the trend began in the 1920s. Those were the years when package-shelled peanuts appeared. They were extremely popular from the first day on. As for Coke, it was already being sold in hundreds of stores all over the United States.

What’s the recipe?

The process is relatively straightforward. First, eat some peanuts, and then take a sip of Coke after you’ve swallowed the peanuts. Now that you’ve drunk some Coke, there is enough space in the bottle to pour the peanuts in. You’ll taste the salt with the Coke, but the taste is surprisingly pleasant.

One thing you’ll also notice is that the peanuts will make the Coke fizz up more, and there’ll probably be some “permanent bubbles” on the surface. It’s alright, all that is expected to happen. Sweet deliciousness. The easiest way to describe it is to say that you get a beverage that comes with a crunchy, little snack.

Diet Coke doesn’t do the trick.

Everyone agrees that the trick works only with a Diet Coke. The key is to combine the salt with the sugar. Peanuts provide salt, while a Diet Coke doesn’t provide sugar.

It is sweetened with some artificial sugars, and that’s why it doesn’t taste good with the peanut. Keep in mind this simple rule the next time you grab a bag of lightly salted peanuts. They call for a regular Coke.

The mix is “pure goodness,” judging by thousands of Instagram posts with the #cokeandpeanuts hashtag.

Give it a go. It’s a thing from the South, but many internet users claim that the trend will slowly take over. Well, in the sea of so many viral challenges every day, this one seems harmless to try. It’s undoubtedly a lot simpler than eating a spoon full of cinnamon.

We only hope that they won’t start producing Coke-flavored Snickers. That would be too much.

Subtle salty and sweet flavors

People who’ve tried this trick say that it’s exciting and very different from salted caramel ice cream or anything of the sort. Plus, everyone who hates to bother with eating and drinking at the same time can now do so while still having one hand free. Isn’t that pretty cool?! If two ingredients are good separately, they have to be good together.

That sounds logical, doesn’t it? Well, try and see. We hope you decide to become part of this interesting tradition and enjoy the unusual taste of the Southern mixings.
