Rescued cat gets room that matches parents' room with 'TV' so he can watch birds and squirrels
Wyatt the black and white cat settled into his new home nicely thanks to his humans, Bryan and Jessica Davies. And just like cats in cartoons, Wyatt loves to watch birds and squirrels from the window.
The problem is that come winter, there are no birds and squirrels for this kitty to watch.
It is the digital age so Bryan took his old Kindle Fire tablet and searched for bird videos on YouTube so that his cat could watch his favorite show. Look at how happy Wyatt is!
Bryan remodeled the bedroom and that’s when he noticed a steeply slanted roof that made space in the room. The problem was it looked awkward and out of place. The couple thought of using it as an additional space for storing stuff but then they remembered Wyatt’s TV viewing habits.
That’s when the couple had the idea of transforming it into Wyatt’s own personal space!
Bryan went ahead and got crap lumber, paint, and flooring and began building. The walls were insulated and covered and soon it became clear that Wyatt’s room could be a mini version of theirs.
Bryan says,
“It was the perfect spot for an even tinier bedroom in our tiny bedroom in our tiny home. So, I opened the wall and started remodeling.”
Wyatt’s bed was made from pieces of scrap wood and while Bryan was busy, Jessica took charge of the aesthetics. This couple’s love for their cat brought out their creative sides. Wyatt had better be happy!
“She made tiny frames from cut pieces of fabric of fancy cats, and even made a smaller version of a piece of art that we have of a black cat. Of course, she also put in a photo of me and her – a ridiculous one we took during quarantine of us recreating the painting American Gothic.”
Bryan shared.
Bryan and Jessica even mounted one of Wyatt’s toys on a plaque to make it look like a trophy of sorts.
Jessica cut up a bunch of old pillows to use as a tiny mattress then she got a matching pillow to create a bedspread. For entertainment purposes, Bryan and his wife used scrap wood to build the frame to hold Wyatt’s “television”.
What they did was they attached the tablet to it so that it was out of the cat’s reach but still within his view. Bryan used a dollar-store plastic picture frame which he screwed on the mount to protect the screen.
Wyatt is still a cat and sometimes, his excitement gets the better of him. So when he decides to pounce and use his paws, his TV won’t suffer any damage.
The room only cost the couple $20!
A lot of recycling and creativity transformed a weird-looking corner into a cat’s own nook and Wyatt does look pleased.
“He spends a lot of time in there, asking to watch his show before taking a nap. He zones out to the screen like a normal teen. And he naps — hard. He really does enjoy it as much as a kid who finally got his own room.”
Goes Bryan.
The couple met Wyatt when they visited a a local pet rescue thrift store where they made a donation. That’s when Jessica saw the adorable tuxedo cat and decided to bring him home.
And now Wyatt really does feel at home. Somebody get him a microwave!
