Adorable donkey wants to be a big Clydesdale so bad, he'll stop at nothing
Budweiser, the famous beer brand, has made some awesome commercials over the years.
Everyone remembers the hilarious ‘Budweiser Frogs’ and the classic ‘Whassup?’ campaign, and we’re delving into the past to find another amusing ad from the big beer brand that is sure to put a smile on your face.
Bud ads have frequently made use of live animal performers, including the famed ‘Budweiser Clydesdales’. These are a group of highly trained, beautiful Clydesdale horses that live at the Anheuser-Busch breweries and have been used in various Super Bowl ads over the years.
The first Budweiser ad to feature the Clydesdale horses was aired back in 1986 during Super Bowl XX, and the commercials have almost become a part of Super Bowl tradition over the years, coming back time and time again.
Back in 2004, an ad aired during Super Bowl 38 featuring a little donkey who wanted to be one of the big, strong, beautiful horses too! Unfortunately, he was born in the body of a donkey, but he had the spirit of a stallion and trained hard to become an honorary Clydesdale.
Since I was born I dreamed of being a Budweiser Clydesdale. Only problem is, I was born a donkey! So all my life, I practiced the Clydesdale walk, and the Clydesdale pull. I even tried hair extensions on my lower legs.
After training up hard all his life and doing all he could to prove himself, the little donkey got a chance at a ‘big interview’ with the official Clydesdale horses.
We see him stepping slowly into the barn, with a group of mighty Clydesdales looking down at him as they ask “What makes you think you can be a Clydesdale, son?”
And how did the donkey respond? Well, it was a little something like this:
The little donkey let loose with a huge hee-haw, blowing the horses away and proving that even though he may be small, he has a lot of strength and power on the inside!
He says that he “must have said something right” as we finally get to see him in the fully Clydesdale outfit, galloping along with all the others and looking proud as he leads the charge.
It’s such a lovely ad, with a powerful message too. It reminds us that even though we might be born a certain way, without the same advantages as others, we can still bring our dreams to life if we work hard enough. It’s an inspiring example of how far people (and donkeys) can go if they put their mind to things and really put in 110%!
Many millions of people have rewatched the classic ad over on YouTube, with lots of commenters talking about how it can still bring a tear to their eye or make them laugh, while others comment on how cute and precious the donkey is. Either way, it’s a commercial that has given the world a lot of happiness, proving that marketing can make us smile, as well as pointing out products we might like to buy.
