Adorable furball goes viral on the internet, but people confused whether it’s a cat or a dog

It’s absolutely undeniable that four-footers are immensely cute. Whether they’re feline or canine, they’ll always bring a smile to your face with their goofy antics and funny facial expressions. However, this one special furball has gone viral on the internet and he’s described as ‘the derpiest fuzzball to ever walk the earth’. We’d definitely agree with that statement, but people also aren’t really sure what kind of animal the four-footer actually is!

“So like is it a cat, dog, or some new kind of fox that we will keep seeing on the internet in people’s houses, but nobody knows how to get one?” one user commented.

“Oh my god he is absolutely amazing.”

“I believe you adopted your dog from a cartoon.”

The term ‘catdog’ was also quickly invented by another user.

People simply can’t decide if this is a cat or a dog, but it didn’t take long before someone with more knowledge clarified the situation in the comments section.

“This doggo is of H’mong dog breed. (H’mong is an ethnic minority group in Vietnam). The original pictures of this doggo are posted on Đảo Mèo (cat island) – a vietnamese fb page for dog and cat lovers. He is very popular on Vietnam fb pages now,” someone commented.

It turns out that this goofy animal is actually a Vietnamese dog, that very closely resembles a cat. People think that the canine is a mix of a breed called Hmong, which is local to Vietnam, and a corgi.

Hmongs aren’t particularly well-known around the world, but they are one of the three native breeds of the Asian country. They originate from the mountains and are apparently incredibly social and loyal pups! Hmongs also get along really well with children.

BoredPanda was able to track down the owners of this particular pup that went viral, Hai Anh and Tuan.

It turns out that the puppy’s real name is Dúi, which loosely translates into something like “bamboo rat”.

“It’s been only 5 days since we created Dúi’s fan page and it now has more than 40K likes. The dog now has loads of fans both in Vietnam and around the world,” Hai Anh said to BoredPanda.

Of course, the question still needed to be asked to clarify. Is he a cat or a pooch?

“He is a mix of a native dog breed and a short-legged dog called Dingo,” the owner explained.

However, she acknowledges that Dúi looks a bit different and thinks a gene mutation might be the cause of it.

“But I think he might have a gene mutation too. I bought him in a mountain province in Vietnam.”

Dúi is an absolutely amazing pup, and he’s truly a burst of sunshine in the house.

“Like every puppy, he likes playing with both humans and dog friends. He is really sweet and funny!”
