Airline won’t let dad and baby on flight, so senior says “I’m going to take you home with me”

Traveling with a baby isn’t always easy. You have to be extra careful to make sure they’re safe and that they won’t throw tantrums in the middle of your trip. You also have to take into consideration the laws and regulations.

Rubin Swift felt excited when he learned that he was granted full custody of his newborn baby.

He quickly traveled from Cleveland to Phoenix to finally meet Ru-Andria. He planned everything to make sure he’ll be able to safely take his precious little girl back to his hometown.

Everything went according to plan at first.

The pair arrived at the airport. There, he presented all the documents for their trip. Apart from the tickets, he also presented a doctor’s note proving that the baby girl was allowed to fly with him.

Rubin couldn’t believe what the ticket agent said.

Even though he has all the documents required, the ticket agent refused to allow Ru-Andria to fly because she was too young. The airline prohibits babies who are younger than 7 days from boarding a plane. Since his baby was just 4 days old then, she’s not allowed to travel by plane.

The father was in disbelief.

They were stranded and they didn’t know anyone in Phoenix. He felt unsure about how they’ll be able to survive the next three days. Although he can sleep at the airport, it wasn’t an option because he’s taking care of a little baby.

He shared:

“I can’t sleep in the airport with a newborn, you know what’s going to happen, they’ll take my baby away from me.”

Then, he suddenly remembered a name.

When Rubin was at the hospital to meet his newborn child, he walked into the maternity ward. There, he met an elderly woman who volunteers in the area.

Even though he was only able to speak with Joy, he knew they could trust her. After all, the 78-year-old woman gave him her phone number and told him to call her in case of emergencies.

With no other option, he immediately called Joy.

He told her about their current situation and without thinking twice, the woman offered to help. It’s like she knew exactly what she needed to do for the pair.

Joy quickly headed back to the airport.

She picked Rubin and his child and took them back to her house. There, they waited until the little girl was old enough to be allowed to board the plane.

Rubin shared:

“Miss Joy was like an angel and she really bonded with Andria. Whenever my daughter heard her voice, her face would light up. As soon as she took us in, I knew we’d be friends for life.”

The caring lady offered more than her house.

Joy took care of the pair. She provided food and gave them a comfortable place to rest. She even took them out for refreshing walks and went grocery shopping. They were able to visit her late husband’s gravesite, too.

During their stay, Rubin learned a lot about Joy. She shared that she had four kids and lots of grandchildren. She even has great-grandchildren.

When Rubin and Ru-Andria finally got the clearance to head home, he vowed to stay in touch with Joy.

The lady promised the same thing. She shared:

“We just knew that we’d always be in touch from that day forward. We started out as strangers, and ended up as good friends. Rubin is very grateful to me, but I’m also very grateful to have had the opportunity.”
