Andrea Bocelli sings Christmas classic and hits attention-grabbing high note
‘Tis the holiday season, and that also means that it’s that time of the year again for Christmas carols and classic holiday songs. Of course, there are a couple of timeless classic songs that never go away, just like the quintessential example ‘Santa Claus is Coming to Town’.
Even though not everybody may know the full lyrics, this is a song that everyone knows and can sing along with.
It’s always fun if a classic song gets re-imagined or covered by a current artist, which was the case for this incredible performance.
One of the most renowned opera singers in the world, Andrea Bocelli, decided to perform his own rendition of the classic tune, but he wanted to do it with a choir of children on stage.
Just like we’re used to from this extremely talented singer, the performance is absolutely stellar and incredible. This man truly has the voice of an angel, and there’s nobody sane in the world who would disagree.
Bocelli also decided to do something special at the end of the performance which surprised the audience quite a bit.
The performance was hosted by pianist David Walter Foster, and both of them talk about their Christmas traditions before the performance starts.
“I wanna know a little bit about your Christmas traditions Andrea. When you were a child, what were they like?” David asked.
“I think it was not different to your Christmas. A beautiful Christmas tree, with my family all together and many songs,” the famous singer then replied.
“Well, Christmas time is really a special time for kids, and Andrea you have a special song right?”
With David behind the piano, Andrea with the microphone and a choir of children providing back-up vocals, this incredible version of ‘Santa Claus is Coming to Town could start.
Even though you wouldn’t really notice it at a first glance, Andrea Bocelli is actually completely blind. He had an accident while playing football as a teen and suffered from traumatic glaucoma, causing him to lose his eyesight. Thankfully, the man doesn’t need his eyesight to sing with that absolutely incredible voice of his, and he’s arguably the biggest name and voice in the world of opera.
All of the children look up to the man, and it’s an absolutely amazing and adorable sight to behold. They’re just as stunned as everyone else is when they hear Bocelli’s incredible voice in person, and rightfully so. But make no mistake – this choir of children is exceptionally talented as well! They bring the performance to a new level and it just radiates warmth and the Christmas spirit.
The real surprise, however, was yet to come.
Near the end of the performance, Bocelli took out a special instrument – the melodica. It’s definitely not the most popular musical instrument in the world, but it does have a unique sound that blends in perfectly with this ‘Santa Claus is Coming to Town’ rendition. It’s breath-powered and resembles the clarinet the most.
The internet absolutely adores this Christmas performance.
“The look on the kids faces when Andrea was hitting a note was priceless,” Rosemond Agyei commented.
“He’s still one of the great ones that we have left here on Earth. How many greats like Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra, Bing Crosby, Nat and Natalie Cole, Burl Ives and so many more have left us but we still have Andrea Bocelli and several more that during Christmas have those special Christmas voices. Look at the little girl next to Andrea’s right side, she is so amazed at him. All these kids look like little angels. God bless them all,” Peter Trinidad added.
