Animal abuser finds missing Chihuahua and throws him from vehicle
What would you do if you were driving home from work and saw someone throwing a dog from the window of a moving vehicle? Driving along a busy highway is hard enough when you need to concentrate on the road ahead! Two motorists were a witness to such a horror as they watched as a Chihuahua was thrown from the vehicle, and now police are looking for the person responsible.
Someone witnessed a horrific act
It all started when a witness called the Miami County Sheriff’s Office in Troy, Ohio to report someone had thrown a small dog from a Dodge pickup. The witness also grabbed the dog from the side of the roadway and took it home. It was while at home that the witness called and alerted Animal Control to the abuse.
The dog is rushed to a local animal hospital
Animal Control responded and rushed the dog to the Troy Animal Hospital. Once there, it was discovered that the Chihuahua had suffered from severe head trauma. The dog, which hospital staff named Chance, also had several dislocated discs in his spine and swelling on his brain. They named him Chance because it was believed that this was his second chance at life.
Chance is stabilized
Eventually, hospital staff were able to stabilize the Chihuahua, though, he was still in bad condition. It was hoped that he would heal with time.
“He’s stable for right now, he hasn’t gotten better and he hasn’t gotten worse, right now he’s just doing okay,” said Morgan Howard, the manager of the Miami County Animal Shelter.
The events that led up to Chance’s abuse
As for how Chance ended up on the side of the roadway, investigators have now heard from Chance’s owner:
“We did have one person who came forward and claimed that they owned the dog but that the dog had ran away from them yesterday morning, and they weren’t able to find the dog,” said Deputy Sarah Fraley of Miami County Sheriff’s Office.
An update on Chance’s condition
It is believed that someone picked the Chihuahua up while he was lost and then threw him from the vehicle.
“It was described as an older Dodge, possibly a Dodge Dakota or an S10 type vehicle, gray in color with a camper top,” Fraley stated.
How you can donate to help pay Chance’s medical bills
The Troy Animal Hospital has set up a fund to help pay for Chance’s medical bills. Also, the police are asking for the public’s help in finding the person responsible for Chance’s abuse. Anyone with information can call the Miami County Sheriff’s Office at (937) 440-6085 or on their Facebook page.
In a bit of good news, Chance is set to be released from the animal hospital. He will be put into foster care where he can receive the care and love he needs to make a full recovery.
