Police officers risk their lives daily for the safety and security of many citizens. What’s less often realized is the risk posed to Police dogs in the force. They are often the first in and directly in the line of duty!

Arlo is a K9 Police Dog who recently went through quite the ringer! After his story was posted on TikTok, he skyrocketed to fame with people all across the world who wanted to support his situation.

Arlo and his human, Sheriff Turpin, get to see a lot of action together. The duo operates in Thurston County Sheriff’s Office in Washington and has been on social media for quite some time now! On Instagram, Arlo had nearly 50k followers before the event.

Unfortunately, something terrible happened to Arlo while he was on duty.

In the middle of a police chase in Grand Mound, Washington, Arlo was shot twice in the back. Rushing him to the vet, doctors weren’t certain that the dutiful dog would make it. They guessed he had about a coin flips odds of living.

With a bullet in his spine, he needed immediate surgery to recover.

Thankfully, Arlo was completely taken care of. His officer loved him, and the world couldn’t bear to see anything happen to him. During his multiple surgeries, the police force documented the progression and recovery of the internet’s favorite police dog.

The original video explaining his story went completely viral, being seen over 2.1 million times!

As each video was posted, more and more people rallied to his digital side to witness his recovery. The original injury happened on January 13th, 2021, so we are currently less than a week later.

In the final video, emotions run high.

On Monday, January 18th, the @k9arlo account posted a final video… of Arlo leaving the hospital! Incredibly, the heartwrenching but uplifting scene was viewed over 20 million times!

Arlo’s human expresses how thankful he is for the internet community during the recovery process.

Having a dog teetering on the brink isn’t an easy thing. Thankfully, Arlo’s human didn’t have to do it alone. In the final recovery video, he said:

“K9 Arlo and I can’t express the amount of gratitude we have to everyone that has helped us with this journey,” the video said. “I’m not embarrassed to tell you that I’ve cried so much, but because of my TikTok first responder and community family, he fought and won.”

Amid claps and cheers from his fellow officers, Arlo walks all the way back to the car.

In a moment that is guaranteed to give you chills (and might make you ugly cry), we see Arlo finally getting to go home. With a police escort and hundreds of people waiting back at home to cheer him all the way inside, you know that this is one loved dog.
