Those who have dogs know how much these fur babies mean to us. They have a stronghold on our hearts no matter how naughty they are some days.

We, too, are their best friends and their whole world. Nothing beats the friendship between man and dog.

However, it can be complicated when it’s between a soldier and a military dog.

Soldiers are often advised not to get too attached to the military dog they’re assigned to handle because they know it won’t be for long.

They would have to part ways as soon as they’re deployed in different locations, dismissed from service, or retired.

But it’s nearly impossible not to form a bond with a man’s best friend, right?

Iraq War veteran Army Sergeant Jason Bos had one best friend while on duty.

Military War Dog Cila M389 served the U.S. Army for six years, including 100 missions in Iraq.

She and Jason worked side by side; the Labrador Retriever mix was always a step ahead of her handle to make sure there were no explosives ahead.

All those years together were put to a halt when Jason was dismissed from the service due to a back injury.

Since Cila was part of the U.S. Army, he could not take his war buddy back home.

It was a painful goodbye that left Jason heartbroken, but he couldn’t do anything.

All he ever wished was that his trusted friend would make it until retirement.

And so, she did, which opened a door for Jason to adopt her.

He was lucky he could pull some strings and had that chance that not all war veterans have.

With the help of the American Humane Society and Mission K9 Rescue, he got the go signal that he could adopt Cila and take her home after almost two years since they parted ways.

Jason couldn’t help but get all excited with this news.

He waited at the Chicago O’Hare International Airport along with the press, who were there to witness the reunion of these war buddies.

You could sense he was pumped to see Cila once again.

When Cila came close, she sniffed Jason and recognized him immediately.

There she was, jumping excitedly at her old buddy and filling him with kisses as he rubbed her belly.

It was a heartwarming scene to witness, and you could feel how both Jason and Cila were happy to be reunited.

When asked about Cila’s retirement, Jason planned to give her a well-deserved rest.

He said he would give her a bath and some grooming when they got home, and his old pal could live the couch life.

His retirement plan for Cila was to shower her with all the treats and love she deserved.

However, this happiness was cut short when Cila got sick later that year.

She started bleeding internally in September and soon passed away two months after.

It was heartbreaking for Jason to lose her just when they got reunited.

But somehow, looking at the silver lining, she crossed the rainbow bridge in the arms of her best friend.
