Army veteran gives shelter his stimulus check to help them find homes for hard-to-adopt dogs
To help limit the economic impact of coronavirus stay-at-home orders in place across the U.S., the government is sending out stimulus checks. These one-time cash payments, totaling $1,200 per person (in most cases), have been sent to millions of Americans who qualify under the program.
One Asheville, North Carolina, military veteran used his stimulus check for an entirely unexpected and awesome reason.
A military veteran offers to help out
Known only as Ralph F., the veteran drove to Brother Wolf Animal Rescue to donate the entire check to help hard-to-adopt dogs at the shelter find a home.
“Ralph pulled up out front of Brother Wolf and told me that he wanted to use his stimulus check to help harder-to-adopt dogs find their forever homes,” said Leah Craig Fieser, executive director of Brother Wolf Animal Rescue, in a blog post. “What a wonderful thing to hear at 9 a.m.! We got to work putting together a plan to help our long-stay and/or medically challenged dogs find adoptive homes.”
After discussing what to do with the money with Fieser, Ralph decided to split the money between six dogs, all of them either at the shelter for a long time or suffering from various medical issues.
The adoption fees for all six were waived, and each dog received a custom $200 care package from Chewy.com to take with them to their new home.
One of the six dogs, named Rusty, was adopted just two days after Ralph stopped by the shelter. You can find a description of the other five dogs below.
Billie
Billie, a 13-year-old Labrador retriever, loves to play with tennis balls. She is also a big cuddler and has a lot of love to give to the right family. Her care package includes an orthopedic bed, something she needs to help her with her arthritis.
Queenie
Queenie is a 14-year-old pit bull mix. She loves to snuggle and would like for nothing more than finding a family to spend the rest of her years with. Her care package includes the prescription diet food she requires for her skin condition and a bed to help her with her arthritis.
Lenny
Lenny is an enthusiastic two-year-old shepherd mix. He needs a patient family, preferably one with children over the age of 12. This excitable dog’s care package includes some toys, a leash, and a bed to sleep on.
Sadie May
Sadie May loves to go on hikes, despite her medical issues, which include kidney problems and joint pain. The medication and special food she needs are included in her care package. She is a sweet 11-year-old dog who simply wants a good family to spend the rest of her years with.
Ty
Please SHARE this with your friends and family.
Ty, a six-year-old couch potato, loves belly rubs and being brushed. He also likes to go on walks, albeit slow ones, since he deals with pain and lameness in his legs. His care package includes his prescription diet food and an orthopedic bed to help relieve his joint pain.
