Two friends buy a run-down house for $5000 and “flip” it into an unrecognizable, brand new home

Lauren and Lincoln are old college friends who now renovate houses together in Texas.

Their YouTube show “Austin Flipsters” has over 100,000 subscribers on YouTube.

In an episode already viewed a whopping 800,000+ times in less than a month, the Flipsters bought a $5,000 home and completely renovated it.

And let’s just say it was a fixer-upper in every way.

But the biggest problem was it’s location 2-and-a-half hours away from where Lauren lives.

Nevertheless, Lincoln convinced her to give it a try.

We have to say, we’re not impressed after the initial tour. It barely looks stable and it clearly hasn’t been lived in in quite some time.

But the pair planned to keep the house and rent it out when they were done, so they’ll be getting back their investment relatively quickly.

At the start, however, it looked like quite a money pit – so much so that it wasn’t always clear what a room was meant to be!

Besides the cracked porch and insulation falling into the house, the floors were not intact. It’s a bit creepy, especially since the house wasn’t locked up and would have been easy for anyone to access.

We’re just glad there weren’t any strange surprises under the remaining floorboards!

The kitchen and bathroom are pretty easy to identify, even if one is painted a positively menacing color green.

Who even buys that color!?

During the tour, Lincoln discovers that the roof has major water damage – but that’s really no surprise considering what we’ve already seen.

The best part is the mysteriously intact cat room – which appears to just be a former bedroom with pictures of cats taped to the walls.

They should totally keep that theme – it includes both housecats AND wild ones!

As they plan the new layout, they decide to keep it largely the same so they can use it as a rental and get all that good bedroom space.

Commenters were disappointed they didn’t create more of an open concept and even took space from a bedroom to create a new little laundry room, but the layout serves the purpose in this case, even if it won’t be as visually attractive.

With the kittens watching over them, Lauren, Lincoln, and their general contractor Zach gut the whole house, from foundation to roofing.

At 1,100 square feet, it’s not a huge job but it’s a significant project and it nearly makes you wonder why they didn’t just tear the old house down and build a new one.

But apparently the “bones” were good enough to work with.

The “after” tour is pretty darn impressive considering what they had started out with.

It doesn’t look anything like the old home, from the inside or outside!

After taking out a loan of $90,000 and sinking it into the property, they’re left with a nice, bright space that should entice renters (if the price is right for the neighborhood).

It’s now a pretty space with even more room on the outside thanks to a new porch.

And while they went with some cheaper fixtures in the bathroom and kitchen, for example, the estimated market value of the house is now around $120,000!
