Australian mom delivers a big bundle of joy weighing 14.5 pounds

Oh Baby!

The average weight of a newborn baby is from 6 to 9 pounds. But it all depends on several different factors if that’s the parent’s genetics or how long they were in the womb.

All new parents are just wishing for a happy healthy baby.

Now, this isn’t mother Melis and father Bens’s first experience with a larger baby, their firstborn weighed 12.3lbs.

When a mother knows they are giving birth to a larger baby there are some complications that they have to prepare for. If a larger baby is being born naturally the baby could get shoulder dystocia, which means the child’s shoulder could become stuck behind the mother’s pelvic bone.

Which could injure their neck, collarbone, or arms.

Those babies shoulders need to be birthed quickly so the body can begin breathing outside the womb. Larger babies might need help breathing and are more prone to getting jaundice, which is yellowing of the skin. Usually, doctors recommend a c-section so there’s less of a risk to the mother and baby.

Baby Willow was thankfully born healthy and happy without a c-section. How amazing is that!?

Cudos to mother Melis. Even though Melis and Ben’s firstborn was a large baby they are still in complete awe of the size of baby Willow. Willow’s grandmother was even in shock of how big her sweet grandaughter is, saying,

“She’s huge. Absolutely huge.”

Willow might also be the biggest baby born in Victoria, Australia.

But one thing is for sure and that’s how precious new baby Willow is.

It’s pretty incredible what a woman’s body can endure when giving birth. Which just proves mother’s really do have superpowers and that’s no joke. Melis and Ben are happy to welcome their new big bundle of joy to the world. The world is definitely thrilled to have her! A lot of people on social media even shared their experiences with larger babies.

Simone Sprouel commented on Facebook,

“My grandma’s sister was 20lb born and my grandma came in at a close 19lb. Born in 1901. We still have big babies in the family but not that big!”

Sam DeMachine commented,

“Wow just reminded me of my poor mama and my birth at 15 lbs … God bless the little girl and her family.”

No matter the shape or size babies are truly a blessing.

Melis and Ben are overflowing with joy to have their healthy baby girl. They even joked that new baby Willow might even be able to fit into her older sister’s diapers. They’ll definitely be able to save money on baby clothes, with Willow already fitting into the sizes of a three-month-old. 2020 is a year filled with big news, and baby Willow is definitely the best news of them all.

Congratulations to Melis and Ben on welcoming their sweet baby girl into the world!
