Australian teens hear about koalas in danger and rush to save their lives

The Australian wildfires have been especially devastating to koala populations. Some young people are determined to do whatever it takes to help out.

Hundreds of millions of animals have now perished in the Australian wildfires. The fires themselves could range on for a long time yet.

In fact, on Kangaroo Island alone, 80% of the koalas’ habitat was destroyed in less than five days.

Because of the dire situation that Australian koalas are facing, young people have taken it upon themselves to rescue as many animals as possible.

Two of the most prolific koala rescuers are cousins Micah and Caleb. They’re just 19 and 18 respectively, and their amazing rescue efforts have drawn praise from around the world.

They rushed to Kangaroo Island when they heard that the koalas there were especially desperate.

Micah and Caleb arrived on the island in a car and proceeded to load it with any koala that they could find.

Sadly, most of the koalas that they encountered had already succumbed to the fire. But whenever they found a live one, they carefully picked it up and placed it in their vehicle.

When they had filled their car, the cousins drove to a safe wildlife park on the island. There, the koalas received the necessary medical attention and shelter.

The cousins have gone out to rescue koalas as often as possible. They have their studies to think about. But they are determined to do what they can.

On one of their rescue missions, one of the cousins recorded a video of their koala-filled car.

The video showed how the koalas were all resting inside the vehicle. The cousin then uploaded the video to YouTube. In days, the video had gained almost one million views. The video also has nearly 2,500 likes and 300 comments. People have been saying things like this:

Of course, the relief and rescue efforts of the Australian wildfires are wide-ranging. People from every affected area have done their bit to fight the flames and protect animals.

People are helping out in different ways. For instance, some rescuers are airdropping tons of vegetables for the animals that aren’t being rushed to safety.

No one seems to know when the fires will end. Some sources claim that a recent change in the weather has allowed firefighters to go on the offensive against the flames. But other sources claim that the fires could continue to spread for months.

The reason why these wildfires are so much more devastating than Australian wildfires of the past is clear: climate change.

In fact, scientists are saying that weather events like the Australian bushfires could become worse than just a new normal thanks to global warming. Scientists such as Corinne Le Quere of the University of East Anglia say, “This is a transition to more impacts.”

At times like these, with extreme weather events becoming ever more common, it’s hard to understand how anyone can deny climate change’s existence.

It just goes to show why it’s more important than ever for the world to do all that it can to protect the planet. Hopefully, people across the world will take action to prevent climate change. But it seems unlikely with the current state of the world’s governments.
