The tiny white and blue Azure Tit is the most adorable bird ever
The Eastern counterpart of the Blue Tit is the Azure Tit and they are some of the most beautiful birds you’ll ever see. It’s previous scientific name was Parus Cyanus but in 2005 it was discovered to be an offshoot of other tit birds. The Azure tit belongs to the phylum Chordata and the order Passeriformes. They are known to interbreed with Blue Tits as well.
They are white in color with blue highlights. They almost look like blue jays but smaller and better prepared for colder weather.

The Azure Tit is commonly found in Russia and Central Asia.
You can find these birds in Pakistan, Central Asia, Russia, Manchuria, and Northwest China. They aren’t keen on migrating either, although some will fly to the western-most part of their range during the winter season.
They prefer to live in woodlands, marshes, scrubs, and high altitude agricultural areas.

Azure Tit diet and size.
They eat insects, seeds, small invertebrates, eggs, and bug larvae. Typically, they will feed on insects throughout the spring and summer, and then seeds, nuts, and berries during the colder seasons.
Azure tits are tiny little things. They measure about 12-13 cm and typically weigh between 8-10 grams. Despite their size, they are easy to notice because of their gorgeous color patterns.

The song of the Azure Tit.
As adorable as their appearance is, their call is just as attractive. The calls are cheery and high-pitched. It is filled with chirps, rattles, trills and whistles. Similar to their relative Blue Tits, their song a “tsi-tsi-tshurr-tsi-tsi-tshurr.”

How many Azure tits exist in the wild?
The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) lists their conservation status as “Least Concern” and states there are between 20,000 and 99,999 mature Azure Tit birds in the world. It kind of makes you wonder how they landed on the number of 99,999. Perhaps one researcher said there could have as many as 100,000 Azure Tits but nobody liked that person so they made sure to go 1 bird less in their official estimate.

Population is declining.
Despite having a healthy population, researchers note that Azure Tit populations are declining. Their most notable threat is humans.

It’s not clear how long an Azure Tit lives for but the average generation length is 4 years. They are also monogamous. Breeding females will lay their eggs in a nest typically around mid-May. Nests are made with moss, grass, animal fur and wool. Nests are typically prepared in the hole of trees or in little nooks on the outside of buildings.
The male Azure Tit will court the female by offering food. The breeding female will lay 7 to 11 eggs. The incubation period is 2 weeks. Both parents will feed their chicks for roughly 17-20 days after hatching.
