Most parents know that traveling with a baby is super stressful. Many others have experienced the pain of traveling with a screaming child. But this story is extreme.

Alayna Dowell was getting to experience her first-ever flight.

Unfortunately, she was only nine months old.

Naturally, she had no idea what was going on.

The Dowell family was going on a well-earned trip to Disney World.

The flight took off, and Alayna started to panic. In no time at all, she was screaming at the top of her lungs.

Being responsible parents, the Dowells attempted to calm the child. But it seemed impossible. They knew that people were annoyed. But nothing that they were doing was making Alayna quiet down.

“We’re feeling like we’re those people on the plane, with the baby that’s crying, and everyone wants to kick you off the plane.” – Ashley Dowell, talking to Good Morning America.

After 15 minutes, a flight attendant, Wesley Hunt, approached the Dowells.

The parents panicked. They thought that they were in trouble.

Instead of telling the parents to quieten their child down, Hunt picked up Alayna.

Then he walked up and down the aisle with the baby in his arms.

Next, he got the bright idea to improvise a bottle of pretzels into a makeshift rattle for the baby to play with.

Soon, the baby started to fall asleep.

When Hunt was sure that Alayna had fully calmed down, he went back to the parents and handed Alayna back over.

Alayna’s parents were amazed. Thanks to this kind-hearted stranger, their baby was happy. And so was everyone else on the flight!

And Hunt didn’t just walk the baby up and down the aisle once.

Ashley, Alayna’s mom, later estimated that the flight attendant had spent 15 minutes calming the child.

The rest of the flight passed in peace and quiet. Alayna barely made a peep.

Of course, before leaving, Alayna’s mom was sure to thank Hunt for helping out with the baby. She later told Good Morning America that Hunt had reminded her that, “there are good people out there.”

Ashley then posted the story to Facebook.

Soon, people all over the world had reacted to the post. And then the story got even bigger.

Shout out to Wesley with Southwest!!! It was a very busy flight so even though we got to board with the family boarding…

Good Morning America then made a video about the event.

It appeared on YouTube, where it soon went viral. In fact, to date, it has gained over 1.5 million views. It also has more than 26,000 likes and 900 comments. People have been saying things like this:

Hunt also told Good Morning America that he wants to have 100 children of his own.

That’s a pretty ambitious target. After all, as this story shows, just one baby can be incredibly hard to handle. But if anyone could successfully raise those kids, it would be Hunt!

As we come out of the pandemic, we all need to be like this incredible flight attendant.

We’ve been social distancing for over a year now, for a very good reason. But once we can all be in close quarters again, we need to be sure to look out for and help one another!
