Lonely baby deer learns what love is after meeting a tiny bunny

The white-tailed deer is one of New York’s most popular game animals and also one of the most beautiful.

Unfortunately, many of these fawns get abandoned for different reasons.

That’s where Fuzzy Fawn Wildlife comes in.

They are a volunteer licensed Wildlife Rehabilitator based in New York state. Yearly, they rescue dozens of white-tailed fawns that get abandoned.

Fuzzy Fawn Wildlife could care for these fawns and rehabilitate them before releasing them into the wild again.

One recent rescue is Nellie.

The poor white-tailed fawn, Nellie, was just a newborn baby when she was abandoned by her mother.

She was too tiny and young to be put outside, along with the other older fawns, so they placed her in a warm shed.

However, the staff of FFW knew Nellie would be lonely on her own. She needed someone to be with, a companion to share the first few months of her life.

They knew exactly who to introduce.

Meet the fluffy Polish bunny, Polly.

Polly, too, was only five weeks old when the staff of Fuzzy Fawn Wildlife introduced her to Nellie.

Slowly, Nellie was curious about Polly and started licking her tiny companion.

At first, the staff became worried that Polly would get hurt by the aggressive grooming, but she didn’t budge.

She seemed to enjoy the attention that Nellie was giving her.

She even followed Nellie around.

The staff fell in love with how much the two baby animals cared for each other. They would often rest in a corner and take naps.

Nellie and Polly became best friends.

“Nellie was the mother for Polly in the beginning. Even though she was only a couple of weeks old, it’s like she knew this little, fragile baby needed something,” Fuzzy Fawn Wildlife told in their interview with The Dodo.

She would groom Polly and would even be very careful when she was around the tiny bunny.

One time, FFW said that Nellie refused to eat grains, one of the most important diets for rescued fawns.

Then Polly came to the bowl and began eating the grains.

Then, Nellie tried the food herself.

They also described Nellie as being very playful and energetic.

The staff also noticed that the adorable fawn would jump more often than she ran.

They have a theory, though.

They think it might be because she is used to seeing Polly binkying.

Whenever Nelly would do her binky, Polly would stay in a corner and just watch her best friend be all happy and playful.

What everyone loved is how sweet they are with each other.

If Nellie naps or rests, she always cuddles with Polly.

There are also times when the staff would wonder where Polly was, only to find out that she’s snuggled comfortably under her warm buddy.

Nelly is really careful with her weight because she knows Polly is there.

They look out for each other.

After a while, the staff of Fuzzy Fawn Wildlife started introducing Nellie to the other fawns so she would be familiar with her own kind.

She also made friends with the other rescued fawns named Buddy and Tinkerbell.

They released the fawns in spring.
