Listen to this baby laugh as a loving German shepherd covers her in kisses
If you grew up with a dog, then you know the special relationship that can develop between a child and their dog. In some cases, a dog can even become a child’s best friend. This seems to be the case in a video of a baby and her German shepherd, as the two sit together on the couch.
German shepherds make great family pets
German shepherds are known as being very child-friendly when they are trained and socialized properly. Their loyalty and even temperament make them especially good for young children as long as the child knows to respect them. They are also protective of their charges, making them great watchdogs.
A video of a baby and her German shepherd friend
In the video. The baby and her family’s German shepherd are sitting on the couch together. Nearby, the girl’s father films the two of them as they interact.
As she reaches out, she grabs the dog’s nose. This is a signal for him to come in with some prime doggie kisses. The most amazing part is how calm the German shepherd is with the baby. For her part, the baby can’t help but giggle as her German shepherd pal gives her a few licks on the face.
So happy together
Chances are, the two were introduced to each other while the baby was still young. So, now, the dog is used to her presence. Their daughter meanwhile has been taught how to act around dogs, as shown when her parents remind her about the “doggie rules” in the video.
Both the baby and dog seem so happy with each other’s company and can’t seem to get enough of each other. This is a sure sign of the friendship the two will share for years to come.
Are dogs and kids a good mix?
In many cases, dogs and kids can live side by side, growing together as they get older. There are some important things to keep in mind when it comes to your children and a family pet. For the most part, you need to keep in mind that dogs tend to play rough naturally. So, it is important to train them to be gentle with your child early.
Developing mutual respect
In the same vein, it is also important to teach your children not to be too rough with a family pet. Dogs, well-meaning as they are, can lash out if injured or frightened, which can lead to a potentially dangerous situation. By knowing to respect a pet, children can hopefully avoid this type of situation.
Ultimately, a dog can make a great addition to a family, especially one with children. As the child grows, they will learn the responsibility of caring for a pet while also having a lifelong friend who will never let them down.
