Baby panda hilariously tries to escape crib while other pandas are napping

There’s no doubt that pandas are some of the cutest, cuddliest creatures that exist on the planet! There’s also no doubt about just how clumsy these silly little bears are, either. That’s especially true when it comes to a baby panda.

After being a regular figurehead on the endangered species list since before the turn of the century, things have finally started to turn around for the adorable critters.

Three years ago, in 2016, the panda bear finally graduated from an endangered status to a ā€œvulnerableā€ one.

Just because they aren’t the closest creature to extinction doesn’t mean that they are in the clear, however. They are still on a watchlist and depend on help from people to increase their numbers.

As such, there have been tremendous strides in China to help grow the panda population.

Part of these efforts includes panda nurseries for vulnerable cubs. Thankfully, with the responsibilities of watching over these fuzzy bears also comes a plethora of hilarious panda videos to be shared.

One such video is almost too adorably hysterical to take. The footage showcases an especially mischievous panda cub who refuses to stay down for his nap.

While all the other cubs in the oversized crib are fast asleep, this one’s doing his best to make an escape.

The only problem with his plan is the actual escaping part. Panda’s are known to be bumbling little bodies. While this one’s giving it his all to climb over the crib railing, it keeps on proving next to impossible.

The cub focuses every ounce of his attention on scaling the crib. Unfortunately, though, the poor panda doesn’t seem to know what to do once he’s there.

After hanging out for a few seconds, the baby panda decides to take a different approach.

He swings his little leg back into the crib and grips the railings vertically. He’s going to try to crawl straight up and over that wall. When he gets to the top, though, the sweet little guy is faced with the same dilemma as before.

Seeing there were no two ways about it, the panda carefully swings one of his legs back over the rail.

He’s clinging to the crib for dear life. All of this takes place as 3 other panda cubs sweetly slumber in the crib. Even so, it seems there is nothing the cub will let deter him from his escape mission.

As he’s straddling the railing, you can tell he’s unsure of himself. They are notoriously uncoordinated, after all, and nobody likes to fall. Too stubborn to stop now, though, the panda eventually swings his other leg over the rail.

The adorable panda put in all that effort just to have it undone right when he thought he was home free.

One of the nursery staff came walking in to check on the snoozing pandas. Judging from her unsurprised expression, we think it’s safe to say that this isn’t a one-off situation. She’s definitely seen this type of bad panda behavior before.

Once the panda realized he’d been caught red-pawed trying to make an escape, he immediately tries to crawl back into the crib. It’s as if he really thinks he can fool his caretakers. She lets him struggle for a moment to see if he can make it back in. He hilariously fails to crawl back over, though, and his fat, furry body is stuck folded over the crib rail.

Fully amused, the caregiver helps the panda crawl back over and settles him down.

Of course, the minute she walks away he’s back at it again.

It looks like this nursery definitely has their work cut out for them, but we don’t feel bad for them one bit. They are hanging out with panda bears all day, after all!
