Young couple’s baby is fully potty-trained and out of diapers at 2 weeks old

Is there anything cuter than having a newborn in your life?

Watching them grow up is definitely a beautiful process, and parents cherish all the moments they get to spend with their little ones. Although, not every moment is memorable – changing diapers isn’t exactly something that most parents like to do.

Potty training is something that a lot of parents try to achieve quickly, but this is usually only possible if your child is between the age of 18 and 24 months. Sometimes, it can take even longer – meaning you’re stuck with diapers even longer.

This couple from Australia didn’t want to deal with diapers anymore.

So they figured out a way to potty train their daughter – at just two weeks old.

That’s definitely something that’ll make a whole lot of parents envious, but the two parents, Montana Lower and Tom Lindwood have now shared their secrets in a lengthy YouTube video. For most, it seems seemingly impossible to potty train your little ones at such a young age, but it turns out that there’s a way to get rid of diapers earlier.

The couple from Byron Bay, Australia, have shared their secret on their YouTube channel.

It all comes down to “elimination communication.”

Ever since their baby girl Blue has become two weeks old, she hasn’t needed a single diaper. The little girl herself doesn’t seem bothered by that all, thanks to the efforts of her parents.

In the first stage of elimination communication, parents must identify the need to go the bathroom through visible or audible cues. After some dedication, the baby picks up on these cues too and is able to ‘ask’ their parents whenever they need to go to the toilet.

It’s safe to say that the technique absolutely works – at least for these two parents.

At first, mom didn’t want to believe that this process could actually work.

She was shocked to see how well it went.

When she read about the elimination communication technique, she was still quite skeptical but was also very interested in giving it a try. It took a full day to really study and notice all the cues of her baby. Whenever one of the parents noticed a cue, they brought Blue to the potty.

After that day – Blue seemed to know what to do when she needed some toilet time. Simply looking at mom or dad is enough to let them know she needs to go.

“Babies are born with absolutely no preconceived knowledge of how to go to the bathroom and so if we don’t teach them to go in their nappy, then we don’t have to unteach them,” mom Montana said in the video.

It is worth noticing that not every baby will have the same bathroom cues.

So it might take some practice to see which cues are valid and which aren’t.

The couple actually started doing elimination communication for a number of reasons, not having any diapers anymore was just one of them.

“The biggest reason why we started taking Blue to the toilet at 2 weeks old is learning that being left to sit in a soiled diaper can add to shame and disassociation with our intimate areas — especially for girls. And it makes sense!”

According to some experts, practicing this method of potty training can enhance self-esteem and the bond with parents, although it’s not a perfect solution either.

While elimination communication can work for a lot of parents, it’s pretty difficult and the learning process can take up a lot of time.

“Our baby hasn’t poo’d in a nappy since she was 2 weeks old because we do Elimination Communication (EC). (…) There are many reasons and ways to start your EC journey and it all starts with learning more about it. We hope this video helps!” mom and dad concluded in their video.
