One of the most exciting moments a mom or dad gets to experience in parenthood is the very first time they see their baby crawl. It’s one of the first actions they take that says they are ready to start becoming independent. While most babies learn to crawl anywhere between 6-10 months, like with most of us, a little motivation can speed up the process.

How do you motivate a baby to crawl, you might ask? Put the family dog in front of them.

At least, that seems to be what did it for this baby girl who was struggling to keep trying to crawl for the first time. The family dog was simply hanging out with his giant chew toy on the floor. His tiny human was a few feet away from him getting in her dose of ‘tummy time’.

When she started to squirm and wave her arms a bit, Dad knew that this might be a recordable moment and whipped out a camera. Boy, was he ever right!

In the recording below, the baby is staring at the dog, clearly curious about how to reach him.

When the baby girl begins moving her arms around, the dog’s attention snaps away from his toy straight to her. It’s like he knows she is going to try and crawl for the first time.

Finally, after struggling to figure out how to lift herself up for a few seconds, she gets her hands beneath her and props herself up. Then she gets one knee beneath her as well and slowly starts moving forward. Once she begins to crawl, the baby breaks into a huge smile. All the while she’s keeping her eyes on the prize; her doggy.

As she breaks into her first legitimate crawl, the adorable baby sticks out her tongue and makes a goofy face at her furry friend.

Excited to reach her destination, the baby keeps trying to crawl forward. At one point, though, she seems to forget just how she was able to make herself move forward. She lifts both of her arms straight out as she kicks her little feet, trying to move even closer.

The baby is a little shocked when her knees slide out from under her and she belly plops back onto the floor.

It was going to take a minute to figure out how to crawl all the way to the dog, but she wasn’t about to give up.

The baby kept on pushing herself to crawl forward, and slowly but surely she began making progress. In the meantime, her dog’s eyes were glued on her every inch of the way.

As if to give her a bit of motivation to keep up her crawl, the dog uses his paws to turn himself toward the baby and lean forward.

He had a very special treat for her if she could only just make it to him.

As she shuffles her way toward him the last few inches, the pup stretches his head toward her and gives her a gentle sniff. The baby girl was clearly excited to have crawled so far, and her dog was going to give her the best reward for it that a dog can give.

When she was finally close enough, the dog gently leans in even closer and gives her the sweetest kisses for all of her hard work.
