Man in quarantine opens up tiny backyard restaurant for local wildlife
While most of us are not thrilled at the prospect of having to spend our moments in isolation, it’s a reality that we must currently face. That said, many of us are us are using the extra time to our advantage.
While some are catching up on their favorite books and shows, others are taking the opportunity to get outdoors. With spring-like weather coming into view for many of us, there’s no better time to enjoy nature’s offerings.
James Vreeland, a Detroit-based man, is doing just that. An animal lover, Vreeland is taking some time to get back to nature.
Not only is he feeding the local wildlife, but he has also crafted an entire tiny restaurant in his backyard for them to enjoy their meals in.
The restaurant even has a name and menu. Animals: welcome to the hottest new spot – the Maison du Noix! It’s safe to say the birds and squirrels are impressed.
The fancy French name, Maison du Noix, translates lovingly to the “Nut House”. Vreeland spoke freely of his new business endeavor:
“We’ve been offering an opening course of a seed medley, followed by peanuts on the full shell, house-cut breadsticks, and a dessert of counter-softened apples.”
The open-air restaurant has been a huge hit, attracting a variety of nut and seed lovers alike. Although, it doesn’t seem to be offering Vreeland much more revenue than a nice sight to behold.
The little wooden structure boasts a cozy entrance complete with a podium and menu. Just beyond the front gate are picnic benches for the wildlife to sit at. The whole restaurant is closed in with a tiny fence.
Vreeland said of the project:
“It took maybe 3 hours to build out of scrap wood. Be the change you want to see in the world.”
The menu offers several options, including a “mixed seed trio”, “stale bread/pizza crust”, “raw peanuts (on the full shell)”, and “counter softened apples”.
The mini-restaurant has enjoyed a lot of traffic, from animals and humans alike! Vreeland told the press:
“The response from humans has been pretty great with people stopping all the time to take a photo or watch the frenzy.”
And with his free time, Vreeland took the opportunity to share his endeavor with the world, posting his creative project to social media.
He’s even gone as far as to upload live feeds during rush-hour at the hip backyard establishment.
The thoughtful project has delighted the hearts of many other animal lovers, all uniting to praise Vreeland’s efforts.
One commenter posted:
“You must have a big heart and respect for animals. You have my respect!”
Another commenter shared:
“This is amazing! Reminds me of the obstacle course that my Dad made for his squirrels.”
One thing is for sure, Vreeland isn’t letting isolation get him down. His heartfelt efforts have been enjoyed by animals and applauded by peers.
