Barber sparks controversy with his “balding man” haircut for misbehaving kids

The coronavirus lockdown has forced people to make adjustments to their routines. Many have resorted to cutting their own or a family member’s hair in the absence of available barbershops and beauty salons. Some shared their terrible haircuts on social media, leaving us hysterical or horrified.

Way before the coronavirus lockdown, a barber was renowned for giving his clients bad haircuts. But unlike the awful homemade quarantine haircuts you’ve been seeing on the internet, this suburban Atlanta barber has been making them ugly on purpose!

If you have a son that has been displaying bad behavior, Russell Frederick is here to help you.

He is known for giving little boys the “balding man” haircut and boy does it really make those young lads look like old fellows.

Russell has been working as a barber at A-1 Kutz barbershop in Atlanta, Georgia, where he has made an innovative way of attracting clientele.

On a regular day, a client would come to his shop for an ordinary haircut or beard trim.

Their haircut sometimes turns out like the one in the photo below. Even the grumpy expression on this boy’s face looks completely normal, wouldn’t you agree?

Do you think all the quarantine haircuts that are making the rounds on social media are bad? Well, you should be really glad you’re not a kid!

Years before the coronavirus even showed up on our radar, a barber in suburban Atlanta became well-known for giving terrible haircuts. Only, he was doing it on purpose!

If you have a son that hasn’t been on his best behavior while playing house during the outbreak, it might be time to make an appointment with Russell Frederick.

His world-famous “balding man” haircut makes little boys look like really old dudes!

Russell has a strange way of attracting clientele to the A-1 Kutz barbershop in Atlanta, Georgia, where he cuts hair for a living.

On a good day, a typical client of his will come in for a regular haircut or beard trim.

They may even end up with a ‘do like this. Even the surly expression on this boy’s face looks totally normal, right?

However, on a “bad” day, when your kid has been acting particularly naughty, you can request the “Benjamin Button Special.”

It’ll magically transform any normal-looking little boy into a grandpa with male-pattern hair loss!

The character of Benjamin Button, played by Brad Pitt back 2008, ages in reverse in the movie The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.

But when you walk into Russell’s barbershop, the opposite is true! On his Instagram page, Russell says:

“*ATTENTION PARENTS* if u have a son that wanna act grown I will give EM this grown man haircut for FREE…”

This isn’t just about shaving someone’s head until he’s bald. Youn men do that all the time, and sometimes it’s even sexy!

But, the Benjamin Button Special involves a strategic shave down the center of the head that leaves a shiny bald patch behind!

A close shave around the crown of the head completes the dreaded “going bald” look that so many men try, and mostly fail, to cover up.

This isn’t exactly a dream come true, but that’s because it’s not supposed to be.

Russell started giving these haircuts as a form of “punishment” to his own son, because whipping out the belt to dole out discipline is sort of frowned upon these days.

Russell sees it differently, however, and told The Washington Post:

“There are a few people that are saying it’s emotional abuse; but on average, everyone is applauding the mother that brought the child in — and applauding me as well.”

Russell’s 12-year-old son, Rushawn, received this good old-fashioned grandpa do-over as punishment for getting bad grades. Shortly after that, his grades “dramatically skyrocketed!”

Russell has already one mom take him up on his Benjamin Button Special. As for any humiliation her son may have received, she said that he’s honestly not too upset about it.

He even started calling himself “old man Jenkins” as a joke!

What do you think about this form of haircut justice?

However, on a day when your boy has been acting especially naughty, refusing to listen to your appeals to behave, you can go to Russell and request for the “Benjamin Button Special.”

Russell with his magic fingers will dutifully turn any normal-looking little lad into an oldie with male pattern baldness!

Benjamin Button is a character played by Academy Award Winner Brad Pitt in the 2008 movie, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. The movie plot involves Benjamin Button aging in reverse.

Boys that behave badly can’t expect this to happen when they are sent to Russell’s barbershop. Russell posts on his Instagram account:

“*ATTENTION PARENTS* if u have a son that wanna act grown I will give EM this grown man haircut for FREE…”

The “Benjamin Button Special” is not about getting a bald shave. Some adults intentionally request to be shaved bald, and this can even result in making them look like a hot Hollywood action star.

Russell’s special haircut entails a calculated shave down the center of a boy’s head, leaving behind a shiny bald patch of skin.

The special is completed with a close shave around the crown of the head. Viola! The naughty boy ends up with a dreaded “going bald” look that so many grown men try to hide, but frustratingly fail. The “going bald” look is a nightmare for many men.

This is not exactly the look of your dreams, and it is designed not to be.

Russell started giving these haircuts at home. He needed to find an effective yet socially-acceptable way to “punish” his son when he needed discipline. If it worked on Russell’s son, it will likely work on other boys.

Russell doesn’t see this as something negative, however, and told The Washington Post:

“There are a few people that are saying it’s emotional abuse; but on average, everyone is applauding the mother that brought the child in — and applauding me as well.”

Twelve-year-old Rushawn, Russell’s son, would receive this grandpa-looking hair transformation as punishment for getting bad grades in school. Shortly after that, his grades significantly improved.

One mother approached Russell seeking the Benjamin Button Special for her son. As for any embarrassment her son may have gotten from the ageing haircut, she said that he’s honestly not too unhappy about it.

Her son even made a joke out of it, calling himself “old man Jenkins.”

What do you think about this form of “balding retribution?”
