Father and daughter relationships can be difficult, no matter the species.

Leo the Beagle is a popular YouTube celebrity dog with his own channel.

In one particularly popular video, Leo can be seen and heard having a very interesting conversation with his daughter Lilly.

What exactly the two are trying to communicate with each other will never be fully known to anyone aside from them. We can take a few guesses, however.

Father and daughter share a deep conversation.

Leo and his daughter Lilly take turns barking in the direction of the other. We know that this is a friendly interaction, however. The website DogTrust.org.uk defines a friendly interaction between two dogs as:

“A relaxed interaction involves a lot of ‘give and take’ body conversation, with friendly, familiar dogs taking turns to advance, retreat, offer play signals such as front paws pouncing and side to side prancing.”

That’s exactly what Leo and Lilly do here. This is just a father and daughter having a conversation.

A more aggressive conversation between dogs is defined as the following:

“An undesirable interaction is one we must learn; dogs that rush in a straight line towards others can be seen as confrontational and they may not engage in gentle interaction. Any kind of force; pinning without allowing the other dog to escape, chasing without taking turns, are examples of a one-sided conversation from a dog that is simply not listening to the other. This can be harmful.”

Just what are Leo and Lilly saying to each other?

If we are to look very simply at what they might be saying to each other, Leo is saying I’m your father and I am here right now.

Lilly is saying I am your daughter and I am here right now. Perhaps things go deeper than that, though?

Perhaps Leo is saying,

“Listen, I’m an older beagle and you seem to have a lot of energy, maybe keep your barking down at night so your mother and I can get some sleep.”

To which Lilly might be responding,

“Dad, your generation just doesn’t understand my generation. We like to bark and run around at night. I’m sorry you and Mom are such squares but I’ve got a social life to lead.”

Everybody loves Leo and Lilly.

One thing we absolutely do know about this conversation is that humans just adore it! It has gone viral on YouTube and as of this writing has been viewed over 13 million times.

Leo and Lilly will never have any idea just how popular their seemingly innocent conversation is.

Leo the Beagle’s channel has over 52 thousand subscribers.

Most of his videos are him reacting to things or engaging in entertaining interactions like the one here with his daughter.

Responses to Leo and Lilly’s video.

Many people who have seen the video have felt compelled to leave a comment.

“I love how dad flinches everytime. Encouraging his kid; “oh you’re so scary,” wrote one viewer.

Another viewer wrote out a whole script of what was probably being discussed.

Lily: “But Scruffy’s dad lets him have peanut butter!” Dad: “Do I look like Scruffy’s dad? You might get choked on Peanut butter!” Lily: “You treat me like a little baby! I’m almost 7 weeks old!” Dad: “You’re going to learn to stop talking back to me young lady.”
