Many of us find happiness in our canine companions. They hate to see us leave and are always excited to see us when we get home. They constantly want snuggles at bedtime. What happens while many of us are away from home, however? Do our pets really live a secret life? Well, this beagle sure does.

Lucy the Beagle is one smart pup. Using her environment, she sneaks some snacks while her owner is away.

Lucy the Beagle reached stardom when she was caught being a sneaky pup a few years ago.

Beagles are known for their friendliness…and their curiosity.

The American Kennel Club describes Beagles are great family dogs due to their playfulness and pack mentality. Bred to be hunting hounds, they naturally have some wit about them in order to make them effective on the trail. This wit was used to no small degree while “on the hunt” when the owner was away!

Lucy got to work right when her owners were gone – and she looked like an expert!

Lucy was obviously not a novice snack finder. From the skill she exhibited, she had used this con before. The first thing that we see in the video is Lucy hopping up on the kitchen island. This may be a common place for her to scrounge some food as it appears she had done it before!

We see the first use of her “tool of choice” for reaching off-limits places.

The first time that Lucy gets onto the counter is right at the beginning of the video. She immediately walks over to the chair and uses it as a boost to search the counter and to get a lookout over the whole kitchen. One thing is for certain – she was experienced.

Hearing the timer on the toaster over go off, Lucy begins to formulate her master plan.

Doing a lap around the kitchen for “creative inspiration”, she soon sees an option. Checking to make sure the over was still there (it was), she then starts to push a chair towards the other side of the kitchen. Getting halfway there, she paws it the rest of the way, knowing she is getting somewhere (note the tail wagging).

Finishing her bridge, the smart pup then dismounts and attacks from a better angle.

Finishing the bridge, Lucy checks the distances….and yep. Everything looks good.

Getting a hopping start, she double jumps from the chair to the counter.

Finally within reach of her prize, Lucy walks across the narrow counter to find her fill.

Once on the counter, things get easier. The heist is almost over. Walking over to the toaster oven, she opens it with her paw and tosses a “very hot” chicken nugget to the floor to cool off. She then jumps off the counter to get her fill.

With the willpower of a dog, Lucy can’t help but go back for seconds.

The first sin is always the hardest, and Lucy has no qualms stealing more delicious nuggets from the oven. The last scene we see is her pulling the tray further out. One can only imagine what happened next.
