Paul Roberts lives in the UK with his partner, their daughter Sofia, and two dogs, including a beagle named Lola.

While he’s shared a handful of videos from his adorable household, one has gone viral, racking up over 5 million views since it was posted in August of 2014.

You see, Roberts spends his summers working away from home and can be gone for three months at a time. Though his entire family no doubt misses him dearly, it’s his dog Lola that has the biggest reactions when he returns – and he has the video to prove it.

As Roberts’ partner records two dogs playing in their living room, she calls Lola’s name and the pup immediately perks up her head and comes when called, following her mom up the stairs. It appears that Roberts came home when Lola wasn’t around and was sleeping off his trip.

Beagles are known for their keen sense of smell, mind you.

So, once Lola gets close enough, she instantly knows there’s something important to sniff out in the bedroom.

Her tail wagging, she sniffs at the clothing on the floor and then looks around the room for the person it belongs to. She knows that smell anywhere! It’s dad – but where is he?

Pets don’t always have a lot of self-control when it comes to leaving us alone while we’re in bed, so Lola helps herself to a sniff of the sheets.

With her paws up on the mattress, she smells at the air, wondering where she can find the source of the scent, since whoever is in the bed is hidden well under the covers.

Her tail is lowered but wagging, indicating that she’s somewhat trepidatious about a potential encounter.

After three months, it’s normal for a dog to be confused about someone’s sudden return – especially when that person is buried in blankets.

The Beagle makes her way onto the bed anyway and begins sniffing out the big lump. Once she gets her nose in the right place, she knows exactly who it is.

Dad’s home!

Her tail is wagging as fast as possible in excitement – this time to see her buddy – as she tries to lift the covers and reveal his face.

When Roberts does pop his head out, Lola acts like it’s Christmas and she’s just seen the best present in the world under the tree.

The wiggly little pup can hardly control her body between wagging her tail and trying to lick dad’s face. She’s also trying to cuddle as well, but she can’t do everything at once.

The little Beagle is a ball of excitement wriggling out of control.

Dad is thrilled to see her too, of course, giving her lots of pets and snuggles to assure her that everything is good now.

If Lola could climb right inside Roberts, she totally would.

It’s just too much thrill for one little body as she goes berzerk in the bed, but it’s a heartwarming reunion and it shows just how much dogs really do love us and miss us when we’re gone.

After her big energy burst, Lola finds a spot on dad’s head to relax for a moment while she gets some ear scratches.

She even looks at the camera (and her mom behind it) as if to say “this is mine.” No pets for anyone else!

The duo hug it out and Lola whines with excitement – and we couldn’t help but smile the whole way through this video.
