Mama bear shows up on man’s porch and introduces him to her cubs
Most people think that black bears are dangerous. With their size, this kind of reaction isn’t surprising. Just thinking about being next to them can make one feel scared and anxious.
Patrick Conley has a different opinion about bears.
Living in Asheville, North Carolina, he’s quite used to seeing them all the time. In fact, bears like to hang out on his porch.
One day, he decided to set his camera and record his visitor’s arrival.
It was a mama bear and she wasn’t alone when she paid Patrick a visit. She brought her three precious cubs along with her.
Mama bear made her way up Patrick’s porch.
Looking at the way she moved, you can tell that she’s no stranger to the place. It’s like she’s visited a couple of times already.
Patrick cheerfully greeted his visitor.
Unfortunately, mama bear wasn’t interested in engaging in a conversation. She just sniffed around.
Then, one of her babies showed up.
She followed mama bear around the porch. Despite being smaller than her parent, it’s quite obvious that she’s packed with lots of confidence.
She wandered off from mama bear and approached the homeowner. She didn’t feel threatened even when in the presence of a human.
Patrick had to move back because she came too close.
Even though he had to move back, the guy’s still braver than most of us. Being that close to a bear can be enough to send most people running away in fear.
Two more baby bears appeared.
Unlike the first cub, the second was a bit more hesitant. She tried to be close to her mama as if she’s worried about getting lost.
The other bear was a shy one. She didn’t join the family on the porch. Instead, she just stayed below and watched them inspect the area.
Then, their visit ended.
The bears left Patrick’s porch and went back to the forest. Their visit was short but it was entertaining.
Patrick’s video quickly went viral.
It has earned nearly 2 million views on YouTube. His viewers expressed different reactions.
One YouTube video couldn’t believe how Patrick was able to stay brave. He shared:
“This guy is like a bear whisperer; or is it the bears are human whisperers? Profound questions of life…”
Another one said:
“She must trust you VERY much to not fuss over her cubs approaching you.”
There was also this viewer who commented:
“I am amazed by how healthy they look, even mom looks “overweight” with so many babies. You have a chance to witness their upbringing, thank you for sharing those privileged moments with us. God bless you and “your” bears.”
What to do if you see a black bear?
Well, there are two things you can do. If you know that you’re in a safe spot, you can just enjoy watching them from a distance.
If you feel that you’re not safe, you can try to make them run away. Carrying a can of pepper spray is a good idea. In case you don’t have one, you can yell and throw stones at them.
