The perfect homemade bread recipe for beginners
It’s a shame that more people don’t make bread from scratch. For a lot of individuals, they avoid it because they think it’s too time-consuming or too hard. But in truth, making delicious bread instead of buying it from the store is easier than imagined.
Not only that but it tastes so much better. While baking, the entire house fills with an amazing aroma. If you’ve always wanted to try making homemade bread but didn’t think you could do it — here’s a perfect recipe to follow. After your first loaf, you’ll probably never go back to store-bought bread again.
Necessary ingredients
You’ll need to gather the required ingredients, which includes the following:
- 7 cups of bread flour
- 2 tablespoons of instant yeast (equals two packages)
- 3 cups of water
- 3 teaspoons of salt]
- 2 tablespoons oil
This recipe makes two loaves. So, if you only want one, you can cut the ingredients in half.
Directions
By following this video, you’ll see just how quick and easy it is to make delicious homemade bread.
- Pour the water into a large bowl
- To that, sprinkle in the yeast
- Using either a fork, spatula, or whisk, mix the two until the yeast dissolves
- When that’s done, add all seven cups of bread flour
- Sprinkle in the salt
- Drizzle the oil over the top
Next steps
- Mix all of the ingredients in the bowl…this takes a few minutes to complete but it’s time well-spent.
If you have a KitchenAid or other type of mixer, you can use that for this process. Some people prefer to do things by hand but it’s not necessary.
Moving on
- Once mixed, you’ll end up with a glob of raw dough
- Transfer that to a cutting board and knead it for eight minutes
Kneading means to fold the dough over and pressing on it time and time again. That further mixes everything and helps to activate the yeast. When done, the dough will be smooth.
Let it rise
- Transfer the kneaded dough back to the bowl you used when first mixing the ingredients
- Sprinkle about one teaspoon of flour on top, cover it with a kitchen towel, and then let it rise for one hour
- At that point, move the dough back to the cutting board
- Work it into a circle about 10 inches in diameter and cut it into two pieces
Getting ready for the oven
- Fold the two long rectangles of raw dough and sprinkle a little bit of flour on top of each one
- Shape them into a loaf of bread
- Place each piece of dough into a buttered loaf pan
To keep the dough from sticking to the cutting board, you can sprinkle it with a small amount of flour. Remember, the shape of the loaves doesn’t have to be perfect.
Pop the bread in the oven
- Sprinkle a little bit of flour on top of each loaf and again, cover the pans with a kitchen towel
- Let rise for another hour
- About 40 minutes into the process, turn the oven on to 400-degrees Fahrenheit
Be sure to place the loaf pans on a lower rack with no rack above it since the bread will continue to rise while baking.
Finish it up and enjoy
- Bake for 40 minutes
- When done, move the pans to the cutting board and the bread will slide right out
- Brush melted butter on top of each loaf
Since all ovens are different, check the bread 30 minutes into the baking process so it doesn’t burn.
Cut a slice and enjoy.
