Ben Stiller opens up about father Jerry Stiller's legacy and last days

Fans all over the world were devasted to hear the news of Jerry Stiller’s passing. The well-known actor and comedian died at 92-years-old of natural causes. Thankfully it had nothing to do with the looming coronavirus and his family was still able to enjoy his final days beside him. It was just his time to go.

Jerry left behind a remarkable legacy that will never be forgotten.

His career started in the 1960s with a comedy duo starring him and his wife Ann Meara. The two were a dynamic pair and performed on all kinds of shows like The Carson Show and The Ed Sullivan Show. Jerry continued performing ever since, best known for his roles in Seinfeld, and The Kings of Queens.

Growing up with famous parents isn’t always as wonderful as it seems but for Ben Stiller, he had one of the best role models you could ask for.Ben Stiller recently reflected on his father’s incredible life. Ben even reminisced about watching his parents perform together saying,

“I remember watching them onstage and seeing them perform and get laughs, and do their act. I remember, as a kid, enjoying watching that and thinking, Oh, this is kind of cool that everybody thinks my parents are funny. And it was exciting,”

“My sister and I really enjoyed watching them perform. But, as parents, they’re always your parents.” Ben added.

Ben and his sister Amy, both inherited their parent’s same comedic talents. Ben has starred in numerous award-winning films like “Zoolander” and “Something About Mary”, he also collected plenty of awards himself. Amy Stiller is a stand-up comedian, keeping the laughter alive.

Ben looked back on his father Jerry, remembering what a softie he really was. Ben shared a heartwarming childhood story saying,

“I went to this camp in Maine, called Hidden Valley,”

“And I hated it at first, and he came up there because I got homesick. He’s a very sensitive guy, a very loving dad. My mom would be kind of like, ‘No, Jerry, he’s got to figure out how to be on his own.’ And my dad was like, ‘No, I want to go up there and be with him.’ And, so, he came up for a couple of days and then left,”

As Ben grew up and tested out his acting chops, his father was always there supporting him along the way. Ben explained,

“I think he just loved seeing his kids act, and do their thing.”

Ben even addressed how great his father’s role in Seinfeld was for his career.

Jerry Stiller played George Constanza’s father in the award-winning 90’s sitcom. The role really brought him back into the limelight and created a new fanbase for Jerry. Ben mentioned,

“I think “Seinfeld” really changed his life, because he was at a point in his career where the phone wasn’t really ringing.”

“I read in one of the obituaries that he had only done about twenty-five shows in the whole series. And, given the fact that he made such an impact, I hadn’t even realized that”.

Colleagues and fans paid loving tributes to the legendary actor and comedian. Jerry Stiller will always hold a place in the hearts of everyone’s lives he touched. He is now reunited with his beloved wife Ann Meara who passed a few years earlier.

Jerry Stiller’s legacy of laughter will live on forever.
