2 guys best friends for 60 years find out they’re actually brothers
Our best friends can seem like siblings.
They may not be related to us by blood, but their connection is that of family.
For Alan Robinson and Walter Macfarlane, being best friends is all they knew about.
They may not have been brothers, but they loved each other as if they really were. Well, at least they thought they weren’t.
The two men met each other back in sixth grade.
They were young kids who found a friend in one another. From then on, Alan and Walter have thought of each other as family, despite not being blood-related.
All of this changed 60 years later when they discovered through a DNA test that they are indeed brothers.
Alan and Walter were both born in Oahu, Hawaii only 15 months apart. Alan knew that he was adopted, while Walter was raised by his grandma, and he never knew who his biological father was.
As the years went by, Alan and Walter grew together with their friendship staying intact and strong. The two of them both attended Punahou school and were part of the school’s football team.
Eventually, they both became players on the Aloha Airlines softball team. They also had a hobby of sailing together on Alan’s sailboat.
The two men have always been present in each other’s lives. They make sure to be present on all important occasions to show support and love for each other.
Walter was there when Alan got married. They lives only 10 minutes from each other and were practically inseparable. They are important and constant parts of each other’s lives.
They considered each other as real brothers, not knowing all this time that they actually have the same mother.
“It never crossed my mind,” Alan fondly said. “That’s what’s really amazing.”
Not knowing that they were real brothers did not stop them from loving each other like family. They did a lot of things together and they felt like they had a brother in each other.
“This guy was like an older brother all along,” Alan told KITV. “We’d go skin diving; I’d be making noise in the water, splashing around, he’d be teaching me how to do it right. He always came out of the water with a bigger string of fish. And I had the smallest.”
There was a test that brought the truth out.
Alan and Walter had been friends for over 60 years when the latter thought of trying out DNA testing. With the help of DNA testing websites, Walter eventually found out the truth behind him and Alan.
In an interview with Steve Harvey, the two of them shared how they found out about their connection.
“My older daughter Cindy really wanted us to look for my dad and ‘Let’s get it done.’ So, the kids got me a gift,” Walter told talk show host Steve Harvey.
Cindy shared how they started checking on all the possible matches with her dad. What they did not know was that Alan was also checking out his family on the same website.
The results came back and the shocking truth was finally revealed.
As the results have it, Alan and Walter are not only best friends, but they are also brothers! Alan could not believe that he actually had one, and it’s his very best friend.
“I had a younger brother that I lost when he was 19, so I never had nieces or nephews. I thought I’ll never know my birth mother, I’ll never have any nieces or nephews,” Alan told KHON-TV.
