Giant dog 'protects' little girl at bus stop until it's safe

When your children start going to school, a new list of parental worries is presented to you. On that list are things like their school shoes, their books, what friends they make, what lunch to pack for them, and so on.

But one thing that always lingers in the back of parents’ minds is their safety

The trip to school and back can be daunting, for both young children and parents leading the way. There are strangers, speeding vehicles, dangerous folk and all sorts of scary things.

Even letting your child wait at the bus stop can be nerve-wracking for parents that live in dangerous neighborhoods. Bus stops are usually safe places, and many children can navigate their way there without a problem.

But some families still like to be extra safe and have a guardian accompany their child to the bus stop.

Under most circumstances, another person would fill this role. But if you have a really big dog around, that works just as well

This little girl here had just that. With a big, protective canine companion standing guard, she has little to worry about. If our observation skills are paying off, her doggy guardian seems to be an English mastiff, one of the biggest common dog breeds.

Mastiff breeds are popular for their size and friendly personality, making them great candidates for guarding children. In fact, their description from the American Kennel Club reflects this :

“Mastiffs are patient, lovable companions and guardians who take best to gentle training. Eternally loyal Mastiffs are protective of family, and a natural wariness of strangers makes early training and socialization essential.”

Some of you may even remember a mastiff named Hercules from the beloved 1993 film The Sandlot.

In the film, Hercules is presumed by the kids to be terrible “beast”, who hordes their baseballs and shouldn’t be approached.

Later, they are met with the revelation that Hercules was nothing like a beast. Just a huge, friendly dog who was misunderstood

Of course, even though Mastiffs have a gentle side, they are still impressively sized dogs and won’t hesitate to defend themselves, or kids. A protective, 200-pound dog is probably the best guardian a little girl could have.

“His docility is perfect; the teasing of the smaller kinds will hardly provoke him to resent, and I have seen him down with his paw the Terrier or cur that has bit him, without offering further injury. In a family he will permit the children to play with him, and suffer all their little pranks without offence” – Wikipedia (taken from Sydenham Edwards’ Cynographica Brittanica)

When watching the video, it seems like this bus stop is right outside this little girl’s house. Just to be extra safe, she still had her big, furry companion stand guard until the bus arrived.

By now we’re probably all aware of how much the internet loves big doggos, and this one is a heckin big doggo indeed! He’s easily bigger than his girl, and patiently waits a whole minute for her to safely get onto the bus. What a good boy.

When the bus departs, he knows that his task is accomplished

After ensuring the safety of his little girl, he comes running back to the house. All 200 pounds of him. You can even see his big, droopy jowls and gentle expression as his owner films him.

It’s hard not to see why people love large dogs so much. The bigger the dog, the more love can fit inside it. If big, good-natured dogs are your thing, then it’s best you watch the video yourself.

Maybe give it a share too, so more people can see this adorable Mastiff on their timelines!
