The reaction of a big sister to meeting her little one for the first time in 2018 really touched our hearts.

Coming home to a big surprise

Presley and Reef Brooks came home to a big surprise on an October day in 2018.

Things had been tough for the family for the last few weeks because their newborn sister Charleigh was born 6 weeks early and had to spend her first 2 weeks in the NICU. Since it was flu season, the wing was closed to visitors, so they hadn’t had a chance to meet her at all.

That’s when mom and grandma hatched a surprise one day when they came home from school. And the minute Reef opens the door, he knows something is up since they’re being filmed.

Let’s just say that Reef is excited enough when he finds out, but it’s nothing compared to Presley’s reaction to having a baby sister.

As the kids waited in the hallway with their toddler brother who comes to say hello, they were alerted to a “surprise” from grandma waiting for them.

The big reveal

The kids cautiously walk to the back of the home, uncertain what might be there. They had no prior warning that their sister was coming home that day.

Reef decides to let Presley go first – and the second she catches sight of the scene, she explodes in a flurry of excitement and runs over to greet baby Charleigh.

But then she stops dead in her tracks.

Composure

The sweetest part of the video is the way Presley composes herself. After coming to a screeching halt, she takes a moment to get ahold of her thrill. After all, you can’t just jump excitedly on a fragile newborn.

After planting an initial hug and kiss on the baby, she steps back in what can only be called pure admiration.

What a sweet moment of sisterhood! (And one mom can play back to them in a few years when they’re arguing.)

For his part, Reef is ok with it. He gives a genuine smile but also scratches his head and steps back to figure out just what this means now that yet another sister has become a reality.

Then it’s back to Presley, who is just overcome with emotion. She can’t even!

Ready for the real introduction

Presley is ready to be a big sister. But first, she takes a moment to really let it all out.

It has probably been a crazy couple of weeks and this signals the end of the waiting game and (hopefully) the worry. Having a newborn in the NICU is hard to explain to kids.

Once again, Presley shows great maturity in not only allowing herself to feel her emotions but getting them under control when necessary.

It’s time to hold the baby and she knows she can’t be blubbering when she holds precious cargo.

Her whole demeanor changes as Charleigh is placed in her hands. She’s calm, cool, and collected, but can’t help admiring her new baby sister like she’s the greatest gift ever.
