Man becomes hunky firefighter after losing 157 pounds as a teen
Imagine losing a whole human being’s worth of weight. That’s what Sam Rouen did when he was just a teenager appearing on the Australian edition of The Biggest Loser back in 2007.
Rouen lost a total of 157 pounds! And boy did he keep it off!
Just 19 years old when he appeared on the show, he had always been overweight. But at that point in his life, it was starting to affect his future as he tipped the scales at 340 pounds.
The Campbelltown, New South Wales man was also being teased by classmates for studying sports science at his university. Something had to change.
The reality show rewards the person who loses the highest percentage of their body fat. Rouen won handily after losing an incredible 46.48% of fat.
Before the transformation, he indulged in favorite foods such as āMeat Supreme Pizza,ā ice cream, and chocolate milkshakes – or his favorite drink: beer.
He would need a complete lifestyle overhaul to get over his calorie-laden lifestyle and keep up with his friends and family.
After winning, Sam accomplished his goals of staying fit and even became a firefighter.
But it wasn’t until he participated in the social media “10-year challenge” in 2017 in which people showed side-by-side photos of themselves a decade apart that he made headlines around the world for his transformation.
He posted a photo of himself before joining the show at age 19 and his photo at age 29. And we can’t believe our eyes! That’s definitely one of the more impressive 10-year comparisons we’ve seen.
Rouen has also been featured in some sexy firefighter calendars – and we can see why!
Despite his hunky new exterior, Rouen isn’t out for attention – in fact, he’s still pretty shy about his body. He captioned his 10-year challenge photo:
āWasnāt sure if I was going to do this postā¦.. however. 10 years hey. What a time. So much has happened, good, bad, everything between. Highest highs and lowest lows. All I know is Iāve got some amazing people in my corner and Iām unconditionally appreciative of that ā
As for the firefighters’ calendar, it wasn’t about his willingness to take off his shirt but rather his desire to participate in an important charity project.
āI still donāt like taking my shirt off ā even at the beach,ā he told The Saturday Telegraph. āIām still extremely self-consciousā¦ I just tried to keep in mind that it was for a good cause.ā
And while his relationship status was one of the reasons he sought to lose the pounds in the first place, Rouen was single again in 2018 after being briefly engaged, at least according to The Daily Mail.
Of course, his fellow firefighters are all too happy to give him a hard time about his “modeling”
āIāve been getting a bit of a ribbing from the guys at the station, theyāve been calling me ācalendarĀ boyā and stuff like that. But itās all in good fun.ā
But he takes it all in good fun and happily shares his journey on his Facebook page, admitting that it was a long, hard road to fitness.
