Blind dog gets his own 'seeing-eye puppy' and they're about adorable as it gets

Have you ever seen a dog having their own service dog?

In the laws of the wilderness, an animal with a disability is left to be prey. Oftentimes, they’re abandoned by their herd.

This isn’t the case for Charlie. Charlie is an 11-year-old dog from South Carolina. Due to his age, his eyesight deteriorated before going fully blind.

But this dog can still see.

Not leaving his side is a 4-month-old puppy named Maverick. Now, Maverick isn’t only about adorable looks. He is a little puppy with a big mission.

Adam and Chelsea Stipe took Maverick in when Chelsea was pregnant. She said she wanted their child to grow up with a dog.

However, they soon realized that he did so much more for Charlie. Maverick was a ball of energy that led Charlie from one activity to another.

Play times were difficult for Charlie.

However, Maverick was always there to lend a helping paw. As Chelsea shared with NBC, Charlie can easily lose a toy as he cannot see them. Maverick would then pick up the toy and leave it in front of the senior dog.

When they walk, Maverick would never leaves Charlie’s side. Even if they were retrievers, the two acted like a team of sled dogs.

The duo was catapulted into fame when Chelsea submitted their photos to a Twitter account.

The Twitter account WeRateDogs publish adorable photos of dogs that are submitted by their owners. The rate the accounts give can be exaggerated like a 15/10, but we firmly agree that the ratings are pretty accurate.

Just thinking of what Maverick did for Charlie would easily garner him a 20/10, and we know, even if he’s grumpy, Charlie would agree.

Meanwhile, the actual rating says: “This is Charlie and Maverick. Charlie had his eyes removed due to glaucoma, but then Maverick came along as his little helper. Now they’re doing amazing. Both 14/10.”

Their Instagram account blew up after being featured on Twitter.

According to CBS, just three days after the post, Charlie and Maverick’s Instagram account gained more than 43,000 followers. Right now, they are at around 130,000 followers.

The account features snippets of their lives like how Maverick bugs the senior dog regularly. How they would both stick their head out the window during car rides. And how they both became big brothers to Adam and Chelsea’s child.

People can’t help but swoon over the duo’s dynamics.

One comment said that their relationship is the perfect example of kindness, friendship, and cordiality. Others also mentioned that the duo can teach people a whole lot about serving each other.

The Twitter post had under 300,000 likes and 70,000 retweets. And we can’t blame those people because we’d swoon the same way too!

According to their Instagram account, Maverick is their only dog now.

Thankfully for Maverick, he came along when Charlie was still strong enough to teach him the ropes of becoming the family’s dog.
