Blind husky is overjoyed when she gets to play in the snow
Plenty of dogs love snow. Their first sight of it in the morning after a snowfall gets their tails wagging as they anticipate being out in the thick of it, sticking their noses in and prancing around.
Some dogs are even born for snow, like huskies. Their thick double coat is even water-resistant and the whole breed is able to run long distances in the snow without taking refuge in a warm place. They’re sled dogs, after all!
Still, the Internet was charmed to see one beautiful husky in Ontario, Canada enjoy a snow day.

Meeting Mackenzie
When Mackenzie was adopted by her first owner, she was purchased from an online marketplace and was likely the result of a puppy mill.
She and her brother Zorro both developed glaucoma as puppies and Mackenzie’s was so bad that her eyes had to be removed. Zorro is half-blind. (You can read her owner’s emotional story about Mackenzie’s surgery and her own issues with glaucoma here.)

The owner told Reshareworthy:
“We don’t want to think ill of the person we got them from because we are blessed to have Mackenzie and Zorro in our lives but we do think they should get their dogs tested.”

Some owners would have found the challenge of keeping the dogs too great, but not this family. But they made the decision to give the dogs the best life possible.
As it turns out, that life is pretty great!

Snow day!
Mackenzie’s adorable viral snow day is just one example of how this husky doesn’t let blindness get in the way of her happy doggie life. And while she made need a few extra cues to get through her day, her owner sometimes forgets she blind since she acts just like any other dog.

While we don’t know if her other senses have filled in for her lack of sight, one hardly needs to be able to see a snow day to know it’s there.
In the video her mom posted over a year ago (and more recently ended up on YouTube), Mackenzie can feel the snow day the minute she walks out the door onto the family’s deck. She even turns back around towards the door as if to say “omg mom, can you believe this? It’s SNOW!”
And let’s just say that this wasn’t the first indication that Mackenzie loves snow.

She’s a husky alright!
The best day ever
Mackenzie really can’t believe she’s lucky enough to get to play in her favorite thing ever. Even the snow on the deck is enough to get her stoked.
But the sweet pup manages to find her way down a couple of stairs to the backyard as if she had no disability at all and launches herself into the remnants of a snowstorm.
And when she hits the open space of the backyard, she takes off like a rocket.
After running around in circles, the yard is covered in dog tracks and she jumps up and down to show her enthusiasm.
It’s a pretty adorable thing to watch.
Still loving the snow
Mackenzie has her own Instagram page where you can follow her adventures. The video of her playing is from last year when she was still a puppy.
But more recent photos show that she’s still lapping up every snow day she can with the kind of enthusiasm you’d expect from her breed.

Blind or not, she can experience the snow just fine.
