Two blind shelter cats find forever home together and become best of friends

Tragically, there are millions of animals each year that have to be put down because of medical reasons, or because people simply deem that they are unadoptable.

In fact, according to the numbers provided by the ASPCA, no less than 860,000 lives of felines are abruptly ended without giving them a second chance.

Many are cats, and being blind doesn’t help their chances.

That second chance is something that the Saving Grace Rescue animal shelter in San Francisco will always want to give to their animals.

They recently took in two rescue cats named Grace and Max, and they’re both completely blind.

As for poor Max, he’s been dealing with a lack of sight ever since he was a kitten.

It’s unknown what exactly happened, but apparently his eyeballs were ruptured at a very young age. Max’s health is clearly an issue and being completely blind isn’t easy at all.

This four-footer is absolutely lucky that he ended up at this no-kill shelter because a regular shelter would simply make the decision to euthanize him.

The Saving Grace Rescue shelter staff was very serious about giving him a second chance: they made sure that the kitten could get eye surgery.

Even though Max is still blind, at least his condition is now stable and he’s doing much better. In fact, he’s even turned into quite the handsome cat!

The other blind kitten, Grace, has also been given a second chance by the shelter, and the people over there never gave up on her.

Grace is a very shy kitten, which makes it kind of hard to find an adoptive family as people usually would rather adopt more social animals.

Luckily, these two blind cats have found a loving forever home – together!

A couple came into the shelter and adopted Max, but they also came across the adorable and lovable Grace.

Her condition was less severe than Max’s, and the two decided that they would give Grace a warm and loving home as well. They’re all one big family now!

Even though Max and Grace can’t actually see each other, they’re the best of friends.

In fact, we’re pretty sure that they can’t imagine their lives without each other anymore.

The adoption story of Max and Grace actually holds a special place in the heart of the shelter’s photographer, Josh Norem, also known as “The Furrtographer”.

The man takes pictures of the animals for free. After the cats were adopted, he was invited by the new owners of Max and Grace to come and meet them at their new forever home.

“It’s extremely rare that I ever get to see an adopted cat in its forever home, so you can imagine my surprise and delight when a couple who adopted not one but TWO blind cats from Saving Grace emailed me about a photo session. I had been following these cats on their Instagram for awhile, so I was thrilled to be able to see them both together in their forever home!” Norem wrote on his website.

“They have become fast fur friends, and will always be there for each other. Hopefully in a year or two I can photograph them again as cute, adult cats, and best friends!”

He also has some very warm words for the couple who adopted them.

“They are not only exceedingly kind and awesome, but true heroes for saving these two special kittens. Thank you for giving these cats a home, and for giving me the opportunity to take these photos!”
