Two German Shepherds that only had each other searched for a forever home

Dogs are social creatures – and not just with people but also with each other.

The bonds they form with one another are often very strong. They will look out for each other, protect one another, and generally behave like a pack of two.

The more you’ve been through with someone, the deeper your bond. That is the case with Gus and Laurie, a pair of German Shepherds that had been through a lot together.

Where did Gus and Laurie come from?

The two dogs were discovered at just 3 months old taking shelter in someone’s barn. A few months later, the now 7-month old pups were taken to Shenandoah Shepherd Rescue, an organization based in Stephens City, Virginia.

“They’ve only ever known each other. They were found as strays at three months old and have since lived in someone’s barn,” Shenandoah Shepherd Rescue wrote on their Facebook page. “They’re around 7 months old now and we are so hopeful that we can find someone to keep these two together. If you’re looking for a bonded pair, look no further.”

Finding Gus and Laurie a forever home.

Shenandoah Shepherd Rescue received a tremendous response to the photos of Gus and Laurie. It seems there were plenty of would-be adopters interested in providing them the forever home they deserve.

“We have had an overwhelming response to this post. If you are interested in Gus and Laurie please apply at shenandoahrescue.org/adoption-process, These pups are pending cat and kid testing and have arrived to their foster in Virginia,” another Facebook post read.

Gus and Laurie must be adopted together.

The rescue organization insisted that the two be adopted together, however. A bond as strong as the one developed by Gus and Laurie would simply be too painful to break.

“We have been getting a lot of inbox questions about this pair! Let me try to answer them here. The adoption fee is $325 each. They must be adopted together,” Shenandoah Shepherd Rescue wrote on Facebook yesterday. “They just arrived to their foster today in northern Virginia so we don’t know much about them yet. They are not aggressive but are in need of socialization.”
