With the weather getting warmer, that means we can finally start thinking about all the exciting things this time of the year brings: barbecues, summer tipples, and cold desserts designed for the warmer months. That’s right – summer really is all about foods and drinks, and we have the perfect pairing of the two to share with you.

Everybody loves ice pops. They’re a classic summer staple, and it helps that they cost something like 3 cents per pop. But if you want a way to enjoy them without feeling like a 12-year-old, why not add some booze to the mix?

You could dip your ice pop into your alcoholic beverage of choice, but that’s effort. Instead, we have a boozy ice pop slushie recipe that is absolutely going to change your life.

All you need to make the recipe yourself is a selection of flavored freeze pops and your favorite booze. That could be vodka, pink gin, tequila, or something slightly less deadly.

Then you have to chop up your ice pops (come on, it’s not really work), add them to a cup, and pour in your alcohol.

This recipe is so simple that it almost doesn’t need step-by-step instructions, but we’ll give them to you anyway.

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • 4-5 different flavored freeze pops (or the same flavor if you prefer to be boring)
  • A generous helping of your favorite booze

What to do:

1. Chop up your ice pops

Chop your ice pops into fairly small pieces. The smaller they are, the easier it’ll be to cram them all into a glass. And speaking of cramming…

2. Cram them into a glass

Add your ice pops to a glass and get cramming. Your goal is to fit as many different flavors into one relatively small surface area.

3. Pour in your alcohol

Now, there’s no real guidance to offer when it comes to how much alcohol you use, but be sensible about it. If you have work tomorrow, don’t get too excited. A couple of shots may be more than enough.

4. Give everything a stir

Mix things up a bit by prodding the contents with a fork and stirring it as best you can. You don’t need to get too serious with this, as when the ice pops start melting, they’ll naturally turn into a slushie anyway.

5. Drink up!

Now it’s time to sit back and enjoy your hard-earned creation. Whether it’s sunny outside or not, you’re free to enjoy your alcoholic ice pop slushies whenever you fancy. Just make sure to keep them away from the kids.

And that’s all there is to it! This summery, seasonal beverage is absolutely screaming to be featured on your Instagram account. And why not whip one up at an adults’ barbecue party when the madness of quarantine has passed? It’s so simple to make, it tastes delicious, and you’ll genuinely feel like an over-18 while you’re sipping away because of the booze.

Of course, rainbows are a sign of peace and serenity, of happier days to come, so you’re not just enjoying your boozy beverage – you’re also making a statement of eternal love and positivity. And we could all do with a bit of that in our lives right now.
