Boss secretly takes photo of mom who brought newborn to work – posts remark about it online

For mothers with babies, working outside of the home is difficult. After a long day at the office, they then head home for their second job — being a mom. Trying to balance work and home life isn’t easy yet millions of women do it.

But when you have a newborn, leaving the baby at home to go to work becomes incredibly hard. Yes, moms have a task to do yet their minds are constantly on the baby left behind. The good news…more companies now offer onsite childcare. That means moms can take their children with them to work although in a different part of the building.

Changing the workplace environment

Considering the sheer number of moms with infants, a few companies are going a step further. They allow moms to bring their babies to work with them. For one mother, that’s pure joy. Hailing from Tennessee, Melody Jett Blackwell is a very fortunate mom who can take her newborn daughter to work with her.

A covert moment

While sitting at her desk and caring for her new baby, Melody had no idea that someone was watching. Unbeknownst to her, this person carefully and quietly snapped a photo of her holding her precious baby. Who was this individual? Her boss.

Seeing the two, the boss felt intense emotion

As she looked at this dedicated employee/mom, the boss felt moved. So, she wanted to capture the moment but without disrupting Melody as she worked. As this boss stated, “she makes it look so easy.” Melody explained just how lucky she was to work for someone so amazing. This boss has always been overly generous, including her nine months of pregnancy.

Her boss had to share the experience with others

Melody works for Maryland Farms Chiropractic. After capturing the special bond between mom and baby, her boss posted it on the clinic’s Facebook page. Along with the photo, she wrote a very short and sweet message.

She advocated for other working moms

Her boss stated (full Facebook post below), “It helps that Baby Nora-Jo is so sweet and content just being with and near her mama. Would y’all mind sharing this? We need more small and large businesses to see this is doable and should be allowed more often! The newborn months are so short.” Just imagine if other companies did follow suit. Not only would it give working moms more time to bond with their babies but it would also lessen the financial burden of paying for childcare.

Then there’s the productivity factor

Another benefit of allowing moms to bring their babies to work, even if only occasionally, is that these women have an easier time focusing on the job. They don’t have to worry about having an infant at home in someone else’s care. Even though Melody still breastfeeds, her employer gives her as many breaks needed to care for her baby.

Melody had a response

To the Facebook posting, Melody commented. “When I had the baby, my boss was very generous, giving me 3-month maternity leave. After that, she has allowed me to work from home most of the week and only come into the office once a week. She allows me to bring my baby with me when I come in so that we can continue to bond and breastfeed.”

This is an excellent example of how companies should treat mothers with newborns. Although rare, perhaps this boss’ message will give other employers the idea of starting a similar program. Kudos to Maryland Farms Chiropractic. It’s easy to see they genuinely care about their employees and their employees’ families.
