Boxers see puppy friend locked in cage and make sure coast is clear to break him out

Staying behind bars isn’t fun.

They’re cold, cramped, and are meant to keep you from going anywhere. They do a mighty fine job keeping inmates in.

But most people loathe the idea of being confined and denied freedom. So break-outs are inevitable. And with that said, many pets hate being behind bars too.

It’s for their own safety a lot of the time, but we can’t blame them for getting a little bit of isolation stress.

Prison breaks make for thrilling stories.

We’ve all heard of The Count of Monte Cristo and Andy Dufresne’s 19-year-long breakout plan in The Shawshank Redemption.

Younger generations have no shortage of them either. Just recently, Netflix released the anime adaptation for part 6 of Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure, following the prison breakout story of Jolyne Kujo.

We seem to never tire of stories of escape, and we’re about to see one happen right in someone’s home.

Of course, I should mention that this breakout isn’t nearly as action-packed or long.

And the cast is a whole lot cuter.

Meet Bella the Boxer.

She and her friend get to roam free around the home, but the same can’t be said for the third dog.

In the little carrier is Cooper, a Bichon Frise. Cooper seems to want to get out, and the two Boxers plan to help him.

An escape plan isn’t hatched so easily, though. You can’t just run in there guns blazing and break someone out. Lots of cells and cages can’t just be busted open.

Indeed, Bella needed brains over brawn.

And her breed has a respectable history of being bright. Boxers are very intelligent and trainable, and watching one do some problem-solving isn’t too surprising.

In fact, “Bright” and “intelligent” are both words that the American Kennel Club has used to describe the Boxer.

Bella certainly lives up to the breed’s expectations.

As with any good plan, Bella had to observe and wait for a while. The other Boxer did the same. Having someone to help you escape is good enough. Having two is even better!

One Boxer paces in a circle first.

Got to make sure there are no prison guards nearby. Otherwise, their plan is done for.

They’re skilled in their process.

In fact, they take a couple more seconds, making sure the coast is clear.

Maybe these two have hatched escape plans before? Who knows.

But waiting around is no good.

Their friend was waiting for them, and Bella had to get to work. So, now, Bella gets her paws dirty and begins working on the cage door.

With care and precision, our clever little Boxer figures out how to release the lock. She presses her snout real close and grips the lock with her mouth.

Now that she’s manipulated it, she works on finding out which way it unlocks.

Pretty impressive for a dog without opposable thumbs!

She fiddles and fiddles with the lock some more. It’s taking a while and the clock’s ticking. Her friend’s there to make sure the coast is clear, but she doesn’t have forever.

Eventually, Bella succeeds in opening the cage.

Cooper’s a free dog. For now.
