Hospital asks for help with pain from wearing face masks all day – this Boy Scout steps up and delivers
Hospital equipment has become bare to a minimum these past few months. The massive increase of coronavirus has overfilled hospitals and made the way of life for healthcare professionals treacherous.
With a high demand for healthcare workers during this global pandemic, their work hours have become even more strenuous. Not to mention nurses and doctors have to wear uncomfortable goggles and face masks for multiple hours on end ranging from 12-15 hour workdays.
Healthcare workers have even shared images of their bruised faces and ears from wearing their protective gear to show the severity of this global crisis.
Although face masks are saving lives they are also rubbing people’s ears raw. Canadian hospitals actually reached out to people for help with this problem and that’s when an idea sparked boy scout, Quinn Collander.
Collander wasn’t going to watch these health heroes suffer any longer so he had a remarkable idea to put his 3-D printer to work!
He created a device that keeps the uncomfortable elastic band on face masks off of people’s ears. His rather simple design has given healthcare heroes a breath of relief.
Nurses and doctors have posted pictures sporting the phenomenal device with a thumbs up!
It’s amazing to watch how people have stepped up in this trying times to help others in need. It takes kindness and generosity to build a hero and this story is one to describe a hero helping heroes.
Collander has donated dozens and dozens of these “ear guards” to help healthcare workers all over.
Colander’s mother shared a picture on Facebook showing his design and has gone viral with over 200 thousand views. On top of creating this innovative design he also has shared the file so anyone who has a 3-D printer can make them as well!
Talk about a selfless hero himself. Another mother even commented on the Facebook post saying
“Thank you for sharing this! My son just finished printing his first batch!”
The power of technology strikes again in the most helpful way.
Colanders’ design has now rippled all over to help other hospitals in need. Collander is a remarkable example of a heroine. He’s not one to look for a profit from his outstanding invention.
Collander is someone who genuinely wants to help others and even to the point where he shares his ideas to have others help the cause too! A person commented on the viral post saying,
“Awesome. This is how we are going to get through. Everyone sharing their time and skillsets.”
Even if you don’t have a 3-D printer we have the power to use this time during quarantine to help out our health practitioners. Protective equipment continues to be wiped out all over the world. This demand has hurt hospitals as they slowly but surely run out of these important materials. Local hospitals all over have asked people who can sew to make face masks for health professionals.
It has rippled to impressive lengths as everyone grabs their sewing machines to help!
Thanks to boy scout Quinn Collander, doctors and nurses have a way to keep their ears intact during these scary times.
