Saying goodbye is a luxury that not many of us would be afforded to.

And for those who had the chance to, it’s not an assurance that it would hurt less. This is especially true for our beloved pets.

As we can’t really converse with them, there’s no way of telling when they’ll leave or if they are preparing to. Then, before we can even realize that the end is near, it’s already too late.

A viral video went around YouTube almost 10 years ago.

The video shows a child sitting on the floor with his eyes puffed from endless crying. Right in front of him is their family dog.

Baobao was obviously weak. The marks of the years she lived is apparent on his glassy eyes, fading fur, and overall demeanor.

The kid petted the Baobao’s head as gently as he could, knowing what was about to happen.

He can’t help the tears that were falling down his cheeks and as much as he wanted to tell her how much he loves her, Baobao wouldn’t understand – but she could definitely feel it.

The boy was trying to catch his breath and his dad was trying to console him that Baobao is not in pain in any way. All the while, Baobao was just basking in these last minutes of affection.

She was being put down because of her dwindling health.

In the caption posted with the video, content creator M13 said that she unexpectedly fell down from their scooter.

She landed on incoming traffic where a car ran over her pelvis. Her back was crippled and her pelvis was smashed.

The event came as a surprise for them because he claimed that he wasn’t evening speeding. His scooter was just running at a walking pace.

M13 wanted to try and fix her up but their plans were only foiled by the complications of her age. He said that her hearing, sight, and bladder control have greatly diminished and these were just the first complications that she had to endure.

Facing the reality of the situation, user M13 had to make a call.

He said that he didn’t want Baobao to go through the pain of getting surgery and physical therapy, especially when the chances of ever walking again is slim.

He also made peace with the fact that her health isn’t going to improve as she was well beyond the normal life expectancy of dogs. Baobao was 17 at that time.

He explained in the caption that he made the decision because he wanted her to go while she was still “herself” and not in too much pain.

He also took the time to explain to his kid the decision.

The child cried once more as they both admit that they’ll miss her. We are certain that Baobao will definitely miss her family of 17 years as well.

“BaoBao had a proper Chinese funeral,” he said in a tribute post, “I’m going to put her ashes in the park where I walked her daily.”
