When Iggi learned that he was going to be on TV, he knew that one song, in particular, would win over the judges.

The music of Simon and Garfunkel is adored all over the world. In fact, German musician Iggi loves the duo’s music so much that he decided to cover it for his first appearance on The Voice Kids.

The child singer walked onto the stage, with the judges’ chairs all facing away from him. Iggi looked a little nervous. But he was determined to leave a lasting impression!

A guitar in the studio started playing the opening chords to The Sound of Silence.

Iggi sang the opening lyrics “Hello darkness my old friend” with a soft earnestness. Already, his cover of the classic was something special.

By the time Iggi had sung the second line of the song, “I’ve come to talk with you again,” two of the judges had already pressed their buttons. Iggi was well on his way to the next round!

Iggi’s mother, watching behind the scenes, couldn’t contain her excitement and cheered as loud as she could.

The judges who hadn’t yet pressed their buttons kept on listening, closing their eyes so that they could really focus on what they were hearing.

A little later, a third judge hit his button, desperate to see the face of the singer.

By the end of the song, only one judge had not pressed his button.

But the crowd more than made up for this. They were all cheering Iggi on. Finally, the final judge pressed his button and turned to look at the child.

This performance soon ended up on YouTube, where it went viral in no time.

To date, the video has had over 8 million views. It also has 55,000 likes and 1,500 comments. People have been saying things like this:

Sadly, Iggi didn’t go on to win that season of The Voice Kids. But as Susan Boyle and One Direction will tell you, winning your talent contest isn’t everything. Instead, you need to make your mark, which Iggi really did from the get-go!

In fact, Iggi Kelly has already managed to have quite a career, and he’s only 16 years old. In late 2019, Kelly released his first single, Why Him. Just for comparison, Paul Simon was almost 23 when he released The Sound of Silence, which was also his first single.

When some people think of German music, they only think of Kraftwerk and weird house songs. People like Iggi Kelly show that in reality, there is much more on offer in the German music scene!

Could Iggi Kelly become popular not just in Germany, not just in Europe but all over the world? It’s too soon to tell, but anyone who watches his first audition on The Voice Kids has to agree that even at the very beginning, he had the potential to become world-famous! Perhaps one day we’ll all be saying that Iggi Kelly ist sehr fantastisch!
