Little boy gets big surprise at Windsor Castle when guard approaches him

When one of the Queen of England’s Coldstream Guards breaks formation, you know there’s something important going on.

Something like the 4th birthday of a little boy wearing a replica uniform, for example.

Back in 2017, Marshall Scott went viral for being so cute during his salute to the guardsmen during the “Changing the Guard” ceremony outside Windsor Castle that one guard stopped and called him over so they could salute together and take a photograph.

Lance Corporal Paul Edden gave Scott the “best birthday ever” when he reemerged from the castle’s keep to call over the little boy after the ceremony.

“It’s not the usual thing to happen while on guard,” Edden said.

But not only was Scott’s little summer replica uniform eye-catching, making the guard proud of his duties, but he also had another reason to find the little boy compelling – he had one of his own on the way.

“Usually I would just take the guardsmen in the guardroom as normal – but my wife and I are expecting a baby boy, and I remembered standing at Edinburgh Castle when I was younger hoping to get a picture with a soldier,” he told the Evening Standard.

Scott’s mother, Imogen, said her son was left “in absolute awe” of the whole event. After all, these men are known for never fraternizing with the crowds while in uniform.

A woman named Joanna Feng filmed the moment and shared it on Instagram. But it really picked up speed after it was shared on Facebook by Charanpreet Siingh, one of the guards on duty. The video was viewed over 1 million times in 24 hours!

When Edden beckons over the little boy, you can hear the surprised crowd cheer all around. Of course, Scott is shocked at the gesture.

The birthday boy drew attention from tourists as well, who stopped to take photos of him in his uniform.

His mother said a group of girls led a rousing rendition of “Happy Birthday” for her son and a family even unexpectedly gifted him with a soldier teddy bear.

Once off duty, Edden texted Scott’s mom and invited them for a tour of the castle! She couldn’t believe their good luck that day.

What a birthday!

The Coldstream Guards later even posted some footage on Facebook, saying they had “a spot reserved” for the little boy in 2029.

Scott’s mom was overwhelmed by everyone’s generosity and willingness to make her son’s birthday special.

“We are overwhelmed by it all, and the kindness of everyone there, not just the soldier who came out to see him. He is so happy. Literally his dreams have come true,” she said.

Scott and Edden even appeared on UK television after their story went viral, where his mom revealed that her son is still practicing his salutes.

“He loves it, he watches videos online and practices at home all the time.”

We’re not sure how Marshall Scott’s subsequent birthdays have panned out, but it will always be a challenge to top his 4th.

We just want to know if he’s getting a new uniform as he gets bigger each year.
